I currently have a Green 96 Eclipse GST that I'm starting to build. I'm doing the full 2gb conversion and want to paint it Northstar White but would not be able to paint the engine bay (the shop wants another$1000 for that). My question is should I leave it green, or should I go with the white although the engine bay will be green. I don't really like the green but I'm not sure of how the green bay will look with the white.
I'm looking for opinions as I'm planning to do work on the engine and will be showing it off a bit :D which is why I'm asking.

What do you guys think??
If anyone has any pics of this, or any engine bay/body color combinations please post them.

If it were me I'd take a stab at painting the bay myself.

I thought about it...but i don't want something that will look like crap:nono:. For that i would leave it green, LOL

Stay green if you aren't painting everything.

Don't change the color unless you do it right and paint everything white, (door jams, engine bay, etc.)

Guys, thanks for the responses. In reply to dsmspickdad's post everything will be painted (that includes the door jambs, hood, trunk and all other parts) except the engine bay.
As noavgjoe said I would be adamant to open the hood too if it's a different color so now I'm leaning more towards staying green, my only question would be is the green on the 2ga and 2gb eclipses the same. The 97-99 green eclipses seem a little darker to me?

Go with the white, and leave the engine bay.

The car is what the people will see, and you can save the money they want to paint the engine bay, and instead use that money to put new or cool toys INTO the engine bay instead. :rocks:

I would have to say from experience to either paint the whole entire car a single color or attempt to paint the bay black. My spyder just got painted charcoal gray and I also skipped on the engine bay painting and it looks :barf:....I dont think I'v yet to show anyone my engine bay yet :nono: LOL I can pm some pics if you want an idea of how funny it would look ?

xxko0paxX if you could send me the pics I would appreciate it. What Boston said is what got me to even thinking about leaving the engine bay, the extra $$ could go into some goodies for the car like rims to go with the new paint

I say go with the white, the green will look fine.

My talon was originally red, but now the car is a gunmetal color.
the engine bay is still red and still looks pretty good.

Paint the bay yourself in black and that would look good with any color you choose. For the white I would suggest the pearl white on the 07+ Subaru WRX's. I don't know the exact name, but my friend has one and it looks awesome.

I was actually thinking of the Stock Mitsubishi Northstar white or the Wicked White from the Evos...but I also saw a pearl white this weekend from a Toyota (a solara I think) that looked real nice and now I'm swaying a little but I'm not so sure all that "glitter" would look nice on the eclipse

You said you are building the car so if you plan on taking the engine out the leave it until you take it out. I bout my car with a green bay and the car was red and it looked horrible

When the engine is out it is much easier to do it yourself. A buddy and I did mine ourselves and it turned out great (He is a body major in college) but even with him being a (pro) I think with the right paint and prepwork I could have done it.

I would leave the engine in and wrap it . Worked fine with my car :thumb:
It's not that mutch work and it looks way better than a green enginebay ROFLROFL

Great pics guys...that's what I wanted to see...I'll see if my boy at the shop is willing to do it with the bay in like rubberburner said.

The only thing that bugs me is I can still see the green by the drive engine mount. So I would use a wood block and a jack to hold the engine up and remove the engine mount and the other stuff so it wont have ANY green left.

For those who replied, I've decided to stay green. Not necessarily due to the engine bay issue but more due to the $$ issue, the difference was about $1500 that could be used for a set of wheels and shocks/springs
