ok guys i got a new power steering pump. and i would like to flush the system before i start driveing it. my old pump locked up and really did a number on the fluid truned it really dark brown. i am not sure if anyone knows a trick on how to flush the system. i thought about maybe pulling the retrun line off and maybe puting some type of inline filter on and run it for a few mins. i would just hate to go spend 85 bucks to have time it lube flush it when i could do it my self. any tips would be great

a air compressor would be good....

well to be honest if you got a new pump there is really nothing to clean out most of the fluid is in the pump just drain the reservoir and replace the pump you should be good hope this helps

What about all the fluid in the rack and pinion, and in the lines?

OP: What I have done in the past is just remove the return line, and point it towards a bucket/catch can of some sort. Start the car and pour new fluid in the reservoir and keep doing this until the fluid coming out of the return line looks clean, just like it did when being put in. Then shut the car off, hook the return line back up and your done. The last time I did this, it took about 3-4 quarts of fluid IIRC.

no problem man, just have someone ready to shut the car off so you dont run it dry on accident and damage that new pump.
