I know this technially shouldn't go here, but I don't see a subforum for the 2.4L cars.....

Anyways, I recently picked up an eclipse spyder for a few hundred bucks. I was going to use it for parts, but the more I look at it, the more I want to save it? It's very clean.. no strut tower rust and such. HOWEVER, the auto trans is stuck in "limp mode". I don't deal with automatics much, so I'm curious if this could be caused my something electrical, such as the TCU? Maybe a faulty speed sensor? I read somewhere that the transmission is a F4A22. Is this true? LOL.. man stick shift cars are so much simpler!

Any advise would be great! I'm going to see if I can pull some codes form it. Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll be something stupid.

if its stuck in limp 3rd gear, that its more than likely the tcu, they can have cap leakage just like a ecu, take it out open it up and look for burn marks or blown caps.

Thanks! I;m going to check it out in the morning. I'm hoping it's something like that, as I'd like to drive it instead of the talon with the blown head gasket.

Looks like it may be the TCU after all. I'm getting a code p1600; and from what i read this means a loss of communitcation form the TCU. However, I also read that something such as a speed sensor could cause this... but I would think it would set a different code.

I did clear the code to see if it was just a fluke, but it came right back.

Can you use any TCU's? or does this HAVE to be from a 99 2.4 spyder? i.e.. could i use a TCU from a different year 2.4?

now i no that the ecu on eclipses are partial to the year model due to there pin settings being different. so i am sure the TCU same way
