Hi Everyone,

First off my car is a 1990 talon tsi awd.

I was wondering if there is any aftermarket lug nuts that will work for the stock evo 8 enkei wheels? (17X8 38mm offset)
I know that everyone recommends using the stock lugs, but because I'm planning on getting the rims powder coated black or gunmetal, i'd like the lug nuts to blend in with the rims.

Thanks,

A little more complicated than it sounds. I use bulldog lugnuts on my aftermarket enkei wheels and I have been told they are a different angle than the stock lugnuts. Hence they can't be used on stock wheels and even if they could fit stock lugnuts should not be used on aftermarket enkei wheels. My oz superleggeras are exactly the same lugnut taper as the enkeis. I imagine stock evo wheels would have the stock lugnut taper. I don't know for sure. You might have to actually search thru some if the lugnut manufacturers websites to get that info or email them. Good luck

Thanks bmoha2, I'll try to keep searching for some info.

I think the easiest and cheapest thing to do is paint the stock lug nuts, mount them on the car and use a touch up pen or something for any paint that chipped after torquing the lugs.

I know I probably shouldn't be so picky about the silver lugs, but IMO it adds a lot to the look of the car :)

I'm sure you could get some stock Evo lugs and have them powdercoated as well. I would think as long as you're smooth with your torquing and not "bouncing" on whatever you are torquing with that the powdercoating would end up just fine.

Almost any tuner style lug nut should work fine. You can usually get them in any color you want.

For example, the ones I'm using are Project KICS lug nuts in gunmetal. The set runs about $180. Or you can go to Discount Tire and get a set of spline-drive tuner nuts for $20. Your call.

Here's an example of a couple different sets out there:

Your thread is 12x1.50 go to pep boys or auto zone they sell a good set of gloss black lugs with locks for about 29.99 that's what I'm using!

Ok guys... Specifically the ones using these lugs you're suggesting... What wheels are you using? If I look at the stock lugnuts for my stock Dsm wheels and then look at my bulldog tuner lugs for my oz wheels they have a different taper. If you put tuner lugs with a different taper on them on a wheel that doesn't match that taper... You going to be setting yourself up for cracking the wheel

I'm saying this because I do not know if the stock evo wheels he is wanting to use have a tuner lug taper or a stock Dsm/evo taper. I'm inclined to think the taper is "stock." On a side note I have seen stock evo X lugnuts that are black. Black from the factory. Not sure what evo X model (mr?) those are on but if you want black lugnuts that would be guranteed to fit evo 8/9 X wheels. That being said... Those black lugnuts look exactly like the stock lugnuts on DSMs or EVOs just black. But as much as guys like to swap out wheels on EVO Xs for more exotic wheels you might be able to find those black stock lugnuts for cheap

Almost any tuner lug has the same angle of taper.

The stock lug nuts are a washer/shim style. The taper on the stock Mitsu lugs doesn't quite correspond to a standard taper, but they work in a pinch. So for a stock wheel, use the stock style lug nut. For an aftermarket wheel, almost any tuner lug will work.

Are Evo wheels also a washer-style seat? I was under the impression they were a standard taper style.

Thanks everyone for the help! I'll be buying a set of evo lugs and painting them black to use.
