The number is indicative of an EPROM. If it has been programed your probably going to have to oped it up and or call motoguys for help.

thanks!! What kind of chip would I be looking for that would let me know its a eprom. Im pretty sure the warranties already void

Your going to look for a removable chip in the corner of the ecu. It will have some labeling on it. Can you open up the ecu and take a pic? If there are no removable chip it is not socketed. And most likely stock.

I could be wrong but every one of these that I have ever heard about or encountered is simply a rebuilt ecu without any tuning or alteration. That said if you are having a problem with identifying it even after reading snowborders link just go ahead and open the case then take a picture of the board and someone will let you know.

I should hope he doesn't put a warranty sticker across the case on EPROM ECUs since he know's the owner will need to get in.

I have a problem with those stickers anyway. If the rebuilder can't tell that someone was inside and messed around they don't belong in business. Based on what I've seen they are more to keep people from seeing the poor quality work they do than to keep people from getting inside and breaking something.

Most of the ecu's i've seen from these guy's, i would throw away. The cheap work they do is the only way they can sell a ecu that takes 4 hrs of labor to get working, and make money. I have actually seen one of their "repaired" ecu's with no heatsink.

Looks like they do it to all ECUs that come across their desk, and they do in fact consider your warranty void if you open the case (see last paragraph):

Motoguy's Garage | 12 Month Limited Warranty

The warranty also doesn't cover anyone using the ECU in "commercial, modified or racing vehicles". Seriously? So, basically, their entire customer base. (I'm completely baffled by the "commercial" restriction. And, the entire next paragraph goes on to describe the specific things relating to modification, racing, or poor maintenance that would reasonably cause a warranty claim to be denied, so I'm not sure what they gain by specifically excluding "modified or racing vehicles", other than it offering a way to weasel out of coverage.)

If you ever needed a reason not to use their services, that page probably has several for you.
