So after some research I'm stuck on which cams I should get. I've heard a lot of bad things about Brian Crower cams...but nothing bad about the Crower cams (Brians dad). Also the FP ones are also in my price range. Any thoughts?

FPvsCrowervsBC?

I'm looking for aggressive 272 cams, but don't understand the whole 264/272 combo thing.

What is your set up and power level your looking for? If you have the money I would say FP anything. I had BC's 272's on my last set up and I have nothing bad to say about them. They seem like they have went up quite a bit in price also...

If you are looking for aggressive 272 cams than go with kelford 272's...They out performed all other 272's on the market and are the most aggressive.

Oh and the whole combo thing like 264/272 is just one for intake and one for exhaust, different sizes for each.

350-375 whp....I have a fp race manifold and evo 3 intake manifold, punishment fmic, 99 flashed ecu, evo 3 16g ported, 2.5-3 inch exaust, evo 8 injectors and fuel pump rewired and my engine is getting built with evo 9 pistons and eagle rods with upgraded head. also getting fuel lab afpr and fuel filter.

yeah I understand that, but I don't get the benefits and like how that helps and its purpose.

I think they are out of my budget.

That set-up is SCREAMING for kelfords!
This is your engine: :)
And this is your engine on kelfords: :D

But yeah, some people build their cars for different purposes so in come cases different sized intake and exhaust camshafts will benefit them.....
Im not exactly sure how LOL, Im on the same boat as you...but thats just because I haven't really researched the benefits of doing that.....EVERYTHING has a purpose ;-)

Kelfords also require dual valve springs, so if they werent out of your budget then, they probably are now.

The FP or Crower cams can get you to your goals, and both will work with stock valve springs to a certain point.

Well, the way I think is...If your already doing work on the head, especially cams, than you mind as well upgrade the whole head since all the components work together as a system to perform a task.

If you already are planning on cams, especially 272's than I would do at least valve springs with them.....Don't you want the full affect of the cams?

I would just save, it doesn't have to be kelford cams you get but if you decide to do cams, why not do valve springs with it? Get the most out of it.

Thats just my opinion.

Call Delta Camshaft in Tacoma, Wa. They sell a K272 (exact duplicate of the Kelfords) and a HKS based 272 for $350 a pair. Great cams, good people, BEST prices.

Which FP cams are you talking about? I hope not the FP4R's. From first hand experience I know for a fact you can not run stock springs on those cams. You can't even run BC springs on FP4R cams (unless you enjoy valve float and bending a few valves :(). BC cams will work as well as Delta cams. I suggest DKS cams. I know quite a few people with Evo's and Dsm's running them.

I have Dks 272's are a which are an exact copy of HKS 272's and I love them. They have some extreme top end while not giving up too much down low.

I wouldn't say they require a dual valve springs, but they do require a spring upgrade. By that I mean a good set of springs. I am running kelford 272's on my new set up with kiggly beehives for springs.

okay so now I'm stuck between BC 272, DKS 272, or Delta Regrind...

which is the best aggressive street cam out of those? thanks

I hope you all realize that those cams are made by Delta and re-badged by FFWD :ohdamn: We're basically talking about the same cams.

With that being said, the HKS 272s> BC 272s thus the Dealta 272s are the way to go considering the DKS are the same cam just marked up.

Sweet so the bc 272s arent as good as the regular hks 272s.

so then since the dks and deltas are the same and are copies of the hks 272s so I should go with the delta hks272 regrinds?

also with regrinds, what do I have to do different and how is it done. thanks./

Really? That's the first I have heard of that. I have to verify this info for myself. So i'll be contacting Darren to verify it's true. I just had to send him a link to this thread after hearing that. Where did you get this information from?

what about the hks ones, are they regrinds too or the real thing, and whats the price on them.

As of right now I'm looking at the DSM Graveyard 274s, and the Delta K272s, and the HKS 272s.

opinions?

The Delta hks cams are regrinds from stock cores.

No there isn't anything wrong with them. Some people are just paranoid about them and choose to run new cores. No one has had issues with the Delta regrinds and I'll be running a set of their hks 272 grind in my rebuild.

You can buy the Delta cams with brand new blanks ground to what you want or you can send in your cores and have them reground (which is cheaper) so long as your cores are in good condition.
I personally run the Delta HKS 272 regrinds (for around a year now) on stock springs & retainers but only rev to 7200-7300 rpm max. I installed them on stock cam gears and you may be able to squeeze some more out of them with adjustable gears but obviously they work just fine without. I'm extremely happy with them, the engine doesn't stop pulling at my 7100 rpm shift point. I'm sure they don't start falling off until around 7800 rpm but my combo is designed for 7K rpm. Good low end, a slight difference compared to stock cams but the gains above 3500 rpm are amazing. Idle is around 900 rpm (don't even try to go much lower) with 13 inches of vacuum & nice lope to them.
For your target of 375-400 hp (what I was looking for) I can't think of any reason not to buy them for only $200 with your cores.
