I picked up a Cyclone intake manifold and would like to rebuild/refresh the whole thing. I have new OEM inner gaskets, so that part is taken care of. I tried removing the shaft the other weekend, but am having issues removing all of it. The shaft is 2 pieces, utilizing a slip joint in the middle (like this: [-). I'm able to easily remove the outer portion of the shaft, but the inside portion does not want to come out.

Has anyone ever completely removed this, or do you usually just remove the outer portion to replace the seal? And if someone has replaced the seal, what size is it?

I wonder if Mitsubishi made it like that deliberately so that the inner half won't be removed. They may have inserted it from the opposite side (TB side) which is capped off. Nonetheless, maybe try sticking it in the freezer for a while. The different contraction rate of the aluminum vs. steel might allow you to pull it out (or make it worse ).

I searched the forums and a general google search and could not find any info about the size of the seal. I also did not come across any reports of a leaking seal. If you find out let me know.

If it's not supposed to come out, I don't need to take it out. Just wondering if it was possible, or if it's in there for good as you said (and I kind of expect).

We did get the shaft to move some. So I don't believe it is in there for good, although if the only seal to replace is the one at the end then no harm done by leaving the rest of the shaft in there.

I've been trying to figure out the same thing. I just pulled out the first half of the shaft on mine a couple days ago. I'm looking to get a port job on my manifold so I have to get that secondary shaft out.

Considering the 2 sides mate together, I can't see how there could be somthing obstructing it from comming out. I can get it to slide back and forth but it hangs up somewhere in the middle. I thought to hammer it out of the other side but I would rather not ruin the plug if I can help it.

I think I may be able to pick up another cyclone locally. Worst case scenerio is to hack this one up to find a solution and just pick up the other one to use.

For reference, the seal size is 8x14x4mm. Motion Industries carries a seal of this size with a part number of 00602729. I have not confirmed that this seal will work, and will post up when I do.

Have you check the condition of the actuator? I didn't rebuild mines but I did remove the runners within the plenum section.

I finally was able to install this seal and it looks like it is a great fit. I haven't put one back together or ran/boost leak tested one, but just from looking at it, I don't think it will have any problems sealing properly. Here are some pictures.

A user I sent one of the above seals to on the link forums has verified it holds 30 psi
