Anyone have a clue what the MMZL is? I cant find any info on it! It appears to have a higher final drive and I just want to make sure I can find a matching rear diff... Dunno if its a 3.9 or what?

LP

I have the same trans in my car from a replacement from a warrenty job, I need to know if this is useable in my 1998 GSX. Cause I am getting some noise from my tranny. 1st gear sounds like reverse.

I can't seem to find info on the MMZL at all!

Thanks Kendel

I have that same tranny in my 95...got it from one of those 'infamous' japan auto parts places. You never know with those guys (and notice its never anyone japanese working there? They look Afghani or something)

Anyways, from what I could gather, appears to come out of the 91-96 Mitsu RVR (higher end model), which supposedly used the same engine/tranny from the 6th gen Galant VR4
(87-92)

Kinda confusing ### the 4G63 Galant stopped in 92...but the RVR continued with the 4G63 till 97??? After 97, the RVR used the 4g64.

Im having a hard time finding the gear ratios and final drive for this specific tranny (MMZL)

I'm thinking of contacting those tranny specialists in the US (like Shep, IPT etc...) and see what their take is.

If anybody else on here has more info specific to this mystery MMZL, pls chime in!

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but I need to know which transfer case to use on the MMZL trans. I recently found out I have one. I did the "jacks transmission" turning method to find the trans case I have is 97-99 but when i did the 5 turns on the gearbox i did not get my MMZL trans output shaft to line back up. according to Jack that means my MMZL trans is not compatible with the 98 tcase. Does anyone know if i can get away with a 91-96 or if i have to find a RVR (MMZL) tcase?

I dont know acording to the code the first letter M in the trans code should make it the right gear ratios for the 2GB.

Thanks!

there is only one gear ratio in the t-case. If you pull the cover on the transfer case, you'll expose a gearset. count it.

have you checked the vfaq.com site?
It will list the matching final drive/ t-case ratios. as well as how to calculate them.

you may need a t-case from an ealier model (1g?). I think they are only off by a single tooth. Nowadays, I think it's just easier to source a late 2g case.

If you do find a matching t-case but the spline count does not match, you can change the t-case output shaft.

the t-case ratio offsets the rear diff ratio to match the front diff ratio.

I have checked everywhere I need someone with first hand knowledge. or someone to do the Jacks Transmission 5 turns of the front axle on a 91-96 transmission to tell me where output spline lines up and I can compare that to my RVR transmission. 97-99 the output shaft lines back up the 91-96 dont after 5 turns and I would like to know where that is. Jacks doesnt mention where the 91-96 lines up afterward.
