Ive been through this forum & a couple of others all the JDM Stuff has to do with 5spd. Because this issue I am having the trans I currently have is the car doesnt shift past 2nd you put it in drive and as soon as it goes into 3rd it shifts back down to 1st also when you put in reverse it has alot of vibration. & last the stock trans mount on the passengers side doesn't lineup with the bracket. The shop i took it to telling me this is probably a jdm trans. So since I am having so many issues with this I was thinking of just buying another trans from the is play in NJ called JDM Engine Depot thats not to far from me. It comes with the trans, transfer case, starter pretty much the whole thing. But i just wanted to know if this will work since i have been reading that theres no 2g in japan. I just want to know what serial number on the trans do i have to look for to make sure it works thanks.

94 99 ECLIPSE TALON 4G63T TURBO AUTO TRANSMISSION 4G63:eBay Motors (item 220443977921 end time Jul-08-09 01:03:42 PDT)

If you are putting it into a 2g the only thing you have to do is the wiring. The plugs on the jdm trans are different not all of them but a few. Also JDM auto 2g trans replacements have no TC lockup function.

Thanks do you have a diagram or a link to how to wire up a jdm trans thanks. Or any1 in the jersey area done this before and b interested in helping once i get the trans

Your best bet is to find a 95-99 awd automatic from a US sold car..That is , if you want to do it once and have it work, or do you want to experiment with something that may have to be rigged to work....The fact that it says 94 - 99 is BS right there..94 is a 1g, different outer housing and is non-lockup... Good luck with your car, it'll be worth the trouble when its right..

I have installed 2 jdm autos in talons 1 was a 93 the other a 98. I had no issues and both transmissions work perfect.

What had to be done to make these work ? Is the gearing off ?

The problem with the JDM transmissions is they are a non lock up type. Even if you put in the lock up valvebody / solenoid, the bellhousing is a 1/2" too short. That is why the intermediate shaft doesn't fit properly. The torque converter would also probably bottom out when the flexplate is fully extended. If you want to use one, you need to switch to a non lock up converter, and grind a little off your intermediate shaft. You will also need to change out all the tranny mounts on the JDM transmission with USDM ones.

I know this from personal experience. The ones you order off ebay are from an RVR. I had to ship mine back.

So would you be able to use the JDM with a non Lock up Torque Converter(T/C)??? I see how it wouldn't work using a 2g T/C that is bigger. Just curious if i can just use this JDM trans that i already have. It is also out of a RVR. I am having a hell of a time finding a USDM auto 2g tranny and am thinking about using the JDM I have now.

I have heard so much conflicting info.

As far as i know the final drive is the same on the autos 1g or 2g. perfect example is i have a 92 talon 6-bolt with a RVR trans in it, that trans came out of my buddies 98 talon auto after he got into a accident. Both cars ran perfect i put 2000 miles on my tans in the first 2 weeks all highway 70-80mph. My setup is a 92 talon auto flex plate a 95 talon auto starter plate. If you have a 2g i believe you use a 93 talon flex plate.

I will need to check on the RV gearing, but just because you didn't notice any problems, doesn't mean that none exist. Your center differential will make up for any differences between the front and rear gear ratio. In the process though, you burn it up.

i put a jdm in my 95. 5/8in has to be cut off the half shaft. need jdm starter. all motor mounts are 1/2in out. need to take out the valve body and change the wiring to have the proper plugs. other than that mine was fine.

I have an 2g rvr that I want to put in my '95 talon awd... Any suggestions other then getting a usdm trans'?

I found out some interesting things about the half shaft:

The USDM AT shaft is too long as said before

The USDM MT shaft is the correct length but the carrier bearing is not at the correct angle.

The JDM intermediate shaft looks as though it is using the shorter MT shaft with the AT carrier bearing.

I have both USDM AWD AT and MT shafts sitting next together. They both came out of 95 Talons. I compared these to the JDM shaft.

So you can possibly make an intermediate shaft to work with the JDM transmission if you have a MT intermediate shaft laying around.

I am going to add another update here about differences between the JDM models and USDM for archival purposes. The JDM flex plate is also different and will not work! I got the tranny in and the starter would not engage! Here is the reason:

Here are comparison pics of a Kiggly flex plate. There is a huge difference!

If anyone has a pic of a USDM flex plate, I would appreciate it.
