Ok, cold start, car makes weird roaring like noise. Push in clutch, stops. Car warms up, Stops. Could it be the throw out bearing, cause thats what me and my dad think. But, i had an ESI and it did the same thing, we replaced the clutch, had flywheel turned, and replaced the bearing, but it still did it. by the way we didnt just replace the clutch to try and stop the noise, it needed to be replaced. ?????Is this just normal?????

are you sure its a roar and not a meow. maybe a hiss like a snake.

could be an input shaft bearing (known to go bad on dsm's) i guess that would sound like a roar to you if you think a bad throw out bearing sounds like a roar

I dunno, not really a roar, but an odd sound, hard to explain.

I have the same problem when my car is cold I can hear a scraping -rattle sound then If I push in the clutch it goes away ...On my car if I let the car warm up and it starts to rattle it wont quit unless I turn the car off and back on...Supposed new clutch just got stuck with bad throw out bearing Thats what the guy I bought the car from said....When I had my probe the clutch and throw out bearing was shit but made no noise.Owell a-c-t install coming anyway so I will find out

I have the same problem with my 95gst during cold start. there's this strange sound like a loose metal vibrating just when i start my car then after about 5seconds or less it goes away without doing anything. what could be the problem of my car?

Thanks in advance!

Kinda sounds like the throw out bearing is on its way out?

the strange sound would only appear during cold or first start of the day and only for a couple of seconds and dissappears even without doing anything.
do you think the bearing is the problem?

thanks!

i just had it checked by a mechanic and he said that the strange sound is not coming from tranny area and it's coming from the throttle.he said that it might be the TPS/ throttle positioning system or the servo.what do you think?

thanks in advance!

If its a loud screeching/rattle only on start up then it could be the starter going. I know when mine was on its way out it didnt sound pretty. Not so much a roar, but more of a chatter that turned into a high pitched chatter later.

@joshrww- even the sound does not come from the tranny area and it disappears within a couple of seconds without doing anything like pushing and releasing the clutch pedals?

@athlete3344- it's like a sound of a loose hanging metal that is vibrating.i dont know how'd you describe it.ive been hearing that strange sound since early december and the sound does not change.

ive been troubled by this sound.have to seek your advice first so that i'll have an idea before i'll have it checked again by another mechanic.

thanks for your help!

Try having a friend start the car with the hood up and you listening to where the sound is coming from. I would do it a few times.

If its from the back of the engine - closest to the firewall and dead center, i would bet on it being the starter.
