Yeah so I got a little over zealous with my dsm today, and got pulled over. :ohdamn: I was going about 120 in a 55, but he only clocked me at 95 (thank god ). I didnt get my car towed, and I didnt get a ticket, but I did get a court date scheduled.
So does anyone here have experience with this sort of thing (im sure some of you do!:D) ? And also does anyone know what kind of repercussions this will bring about?
Loss of license? Hefty Fine? .....Jail time?
Thanks Guys

Oh and I have never before had anything on my record, not even a ticket.

How did you not get a ticket and still get a court date? LOL didn't know that was possible

Your insurance is going to LOVE you. Start saving now, it's going to cost you.

"Not quite as serious as aggressive driving, but still a criminal offense, reckless driving is a Class B misdemeanor that can be committed in a few different ways. Class B misdemeanors are punishable by up to 180 days in jail and fines reaching $1,000. You may be charged with this offense if you were caught:

Driving at an unreasonably high rate of speed or unreasonable low rate of speed that endangers the safety or people or property or blocks the flow of traffic..."

I may elaborate more when i get off of work. Dont have alot of free typing time with the boss around. But i will say you will lose your license for a period of time. ( i dont know how much because im not familiar with your states law ). Your insurance will skyrocket, they can give you jail time, a fine, or both.

Ill talk more when im home.

Your most likely not going to jail unless you are on probation or had other charges before and since your 17 they might possibly charge you as a youth offender. But you may get a fine or maybe some community service, and if you go to jail you DON'T GET RAPED i dont know why that is such a huge rumor.

my 113 in a 55 has cost me 4000 so far in court fees, lawyer, and the biggest expense is insurance. I almost lost my job because of it to. get a lawyer.

Damn dude... That sucks. Been there, done that though, but I agree that you will need a lawyer and your insurance will go up like you wont believe, right now I pay a little over $300 a month and that is with pretty much no coverage.

Since you're that young they will try to make an example out of you. After lawyer fees and fines you will have to spend about $2500-$3000 depending on what state you're in of course. Since you're only 17 they MIGHT (huge might) not send you to jail, but you definitely will be losing your license for at least 6 months.

They hauled me to jail got bailed out an hour later. I really can't see you going to jail over this without a string of other infractions. Every state has their own laws though so you should talk to a lawyer for sure. I know in florida I got traffic school for a couple of my tickets. Here in nc they don't do that.

I wouldn't let this bother you too much. Usually you never get the "maximum fine" or whatever. Last year I got a ticket for street racing, which in the state of VA can be a max fine of 2500 dollars, loss of your license for up to two years, and jail time. All I came out with was a 150 dollar ticket for an 80 in a 65. Just be respectful to the judge and you'll be alright

I got reckless driving twice. Didn't loose the license either time. Why don't you find out where the prosecutor's office is, go in and ask them what to expect? Just walk on in there and ask around. Tell them you just need to know whether or not you need to find a lawyer. Their office is probably in, or very near, the courthouse.

Also, when you see the judge, you can ask him to set a new court date when you can come back with an attorney, if need be. In IL, you wouldn't likely get your licence suspended over this; it's just a bigger fine. Maybe you would loose the licence automaticly, just for being under 18. It's been a long time for me, and they make it all tougher every year.

If he clocked you at 95 you are good. I got a ticket for going 110 in a 65 and I got a $900 ticket and 30 day license suspension.

It completely depends on the state and local laws.

I'd also suggest going and talking to an expert on what to expect.

Talk to the judge who's going to hear your case. He may give you some leniency just because you were mature enough to go in and talk to him beforehand.

Back in the day when I had my v6 mustang I was pulled over for 115 in a 40 - got a ticket for 90.

Payed it / pled guilty.

Was going to lose my license for a year.
Appealed the DOT's decision and got put on probation for a year instead where if I got one ticket I lost my license and I had to take a one day class.

My insurance never changed though, I guess my company has never caught that ticket. It's my only ticket on my record.

But reckless driving would be different

I'm pretty sure it's only super serial if you get clocked at double the speed limit... If you know a lawyer, it will save you a bunch.

You should go talk to the prosecuting attorney. Hes the guy that will represent the state on your court date. If your respectful and present a good case he should work with you (unless he's a dink).

Relax, your most likely not going to jail for a reckless... they can put you there, but they wont. If the prosecutor does help your probably in the 2-4 hundred range with a good slap on the wrist.

Yep... Talking to the judge and prosecutor should help. As the guys said, be completely respectful, if this is your first offense they shouldn't go too hard on you.

I can say this but it's for PA. I was pulled over on my motorcycle doing 90 in a 55 and lost my license for 15 days. I had to goto DOT and have a hearing with them explaining what happened. With their decision it would either be license suspension or goto a safe driving class. Still had a $180 ticket though.

The officer was kind enough to lower your speed to less than double which is a good thing. You'll loose your license for a period of time and pay a fine. Talk to the judge and find out what is going to happen. Dress nicely as well.

I read a few comments and some of you are just talking about what your herd or read not gone threw.

Iv been pulled over 3 times so far once for speeding 22above the speed limit no license and no registrations got my car towed ($98) court was 1 month away so i got my car registered and got all my class's (DnA) and told the prosectuer here is my registration i got all my class's done and im ready to get my license, she said okay told me to go back within a month with my license, went back had the license got a $60 dollar ticket. I was 17 at the time

2nd time pulled over for 75 in a 30 (i thought i was still on the highway) the cop was waiting right off the highway no time to stop. Got my talon towed and again back to court. 2 days before court i turned 18 went to court got another $60 dollar ticket and i used my YO (youthful offender) cant use it for another 5 years now.

3rd time i have to go to court on may 3rd now doing 98 on a 65 (highway) cop came asked why i said curfew (didnt work) came back said two ways to approach it first arrest you and towe your car or court summoning and thats what your getting. Now im expecting a hefty fine ($300? ) and i dont belive their going to suspended it because i have to drive my parents around (too old) + i just got a new altima so ima use that too and im expecting for my insurance to be about $200 a month + $60 for my AR class's (LOL acceleration rehab!)

It all depends where you live but your just gonna get a hefty fine (hopefully not) and youthful offender no licnese suspended or anything just go well dressed and your good.

Oh and dont be nervous all of the prosectuers iv delt with have all been mad chill. And your not even going to talk to a judge just a prosectuer takes about 4minutes and your done. NO need for a lawyer or anything your gonna get slapped with youthful offender and maybe a hefty fine but no loss of license and deff. no jail time.
