Took this video 2 days ago on an IFR training flight with one of my students, thought I'd share...

bad ass, ive all ways wanted to go to flight school when i lived in naples. but not enough money for it.congrats to you man:thumb:

Thanks!

Yup, it's expensive, $45k for flight training and another $60k for grad school... and I wonder why I don't have a 10sec drag car yet?! :p

who cares man your 15000 plus ft higher than the rest of us LOL wow i didnt think it was that high..will they barter :D

Lol, I haven't been above 12,000 feet as a pilot; no bartering in this business...

Looks like fun! Also looks like a nice airport.

I started studying a bit again for this. I definitely need more time though as there's a lot of stuff to learn, especially when dealing with map reading.

Hey Brian, glad to hear that you are still at it! I have a file on my website called VFR Aeronautical Chart Guide DG in the Download section that might help you. www.flyintallahassee.com

That's bad ass! I have heights though, something about them just makes me shake and lose sense of direction.

Its kinda weird if you think about it, flying is a lot safer than going 160-170mph, but I prefer speed... I'm starting to think I'm ass backwards when it comes to safety... Hell, ass backwards when it comes to a lot of things...

Take it from me, don't let your kids grow up in New Jersey, there's something in our water.

Thanks for the post. Never really knew how it looked up there when it rains! Never been in a plane before, except when I was like 1 month old but that don't count!

$45k for CFI, CFII, MEI, some PIC multi-time and some B1900 simulator training. I just got my ATP in August of 2010 too. :)

Wow congratulations! What airline you plan on flying for?

Now I know who to ask for questions and how I should go about doing training.
Since we are on the subject, My intro flight:

Have you ever flown in a glass cockpit before? If so, do you like it better? What types of things can/do you do differently?

I'll have to check out that file, as well as the others on your website! Did you revamp the look of it, as I don't remember it looking like that the last time I checked it out. Or maybe I just have a bad memory :p

Website is the same, I just added a few more tabs to it. Don't forget to check out the multi-engine runway over-run video on - Multi-Engine -

Yes, I've flown a couple of airplanes with glass. It reduces the workload in flight but I don't think it is a good way to learn how to fly airplanes. If you have enough experience with conventional cockpit aircraft, then glass would be the next upgrade. Most glass cockpits have autopilots that will fly the entire route of fly and even fly the approaches on autopilot, they automatically tune and identify nav-aids and big moving maps are good for situational awareness. Not to mention, you can get live weather and select the "direct-to" function on them by looking at airport icons on the map. One of the G1000 Cessna 182Ts that I flew had the airport map on one of the screens and it showed us where we were taxing, this can help if you fly into a big airport like MCO or ATL.

My graduate capstone project is on the Impact of Automation on Situational Awareness in Multi-crew Air Carrier Flight Operations, I'll send you a link to the final paper once it has been approved, if you want to read a 84 page paper. :)

I don't think it is a good way to learn how to fly airplanes.

I totally agree. I want to know how things work, why they react a certain way, how they affect other variables, etc. Automation is not what I want to be learning, especially since I'd feel like I wasn't really flying.

Sure, send/post up the link to the paper!

Thanks, shoot me a PM anytime! Hoping for Compass Airlines (Delta/NW) so I can fly the EMB-175 (pic below).

By the way, nice pics. I have some here - - Photo Gallery -

What would happen if you accidentally pressed a button or spilled your drink on the instrument panel?

What would happen if you accidentally pressed a button or spilled your drink on the instrument panel?

Depends on what button you press. If you disengage something, you can engage it back on. If you toggle something off, you can toggle it back on. If you cleared a flight plan, it would take anywhere between 2 and 10 minutes to program it back it and while you do this, you would have to hand fly the airplane or fly straight and level on autopilot.

Most aircraft have enough backup systems where if one system died, the other would be enough to get the airplane back on the ground. If you spilled your drink, then after being yelled at by the Chief Pilot and not being allowed to carry any drinks in the airplane, the plane would have to go in MX to undergo a through checkout to ensure that nothing shorts out or dies when the airplane is up in the air. There are many companies that don't allow any drinks in the cockpit other than water.

Need a little more RainX in that windshield, man!

LOL I wish! RainX would make things so much easier to see, but we aren't allowed to put those on airplane windshields.

Nice. I dropped 13k before I realized I absolutely suck at flying and it got pretty boring. I work on them instead now for Delta.

Glad to see some DSM'r pilots. Ive been flying for almost two years, about 25HRS in a piper, 120 HRS in a turbo prop, and 115 HRS rotary. About 50 HRS of combined simulated and actual IMC. Total cost = $0

Im in the Navy and I just finished the TH-57 (Bell 206) syllabus. Due to get my gold wings on the 7th of May. Ironically, I recognize that approach approach into KTLH. All of my flight time has been in Pensacola and the surrounding area. The weather in the video looks pretty crumby. Hopefully that was a "weather other than forecast" scenario. If I can avoid launching into IMC, I will, especially in a training environment.

My instructor and I got a cessna 172 up to 187Kts ground speed while still in the green arc, a couple weeks ago! LOL hell of a tail wind:hellyeah:

Where are you taking the B1900 training at? I am taking a class here at school for the KingAir B200. Last semester was systems, this semester is sim LOFT training. Super fun but super hard class to take.

Nah, that was forecasted weather. ;) My student is done with stage 2 IFR flight training (approaches), so this is some real IMC experience for him. While most instructors cancel training flights in IMC, I take my students up. I'm going up for another training flight at noon, Broken 700, Overcast at 1500 feet, winds gusting to 22 knots :D, I'll see if I can take another video to post.

On a side note, I have never flown in a helicopter. We have a R44 on the ramp, but I don't like the idea of not being able to glide after an engine failure. The whole auto-rotation thing sounds scary to me... which is ironic since I love doing spins. :)

Wow, 187 in a Cessna is fast, I've only hit 160 kts GS in a Cessna. B1900 training was done at a flight school called Airline Training Academy in Orlando a LOOOOONG time ago. The flight school doesn't even exist anymore. Where are you going to school to take these classes? I was only aware of ERAU and UND offering these kinds of classes.

I go to Indiana State University. I am unable to technically log anytime in the sim but unofficially I have about 35hrs right now. I think ISU can't get it certified for financial reasons but it is pretty damn realistic besides not being a motion sim. The classes are really just designed to get us prepared for the job atmosphere with a good grasp of turbine ops and improve CRM. It dosn't hurt that the training is free aside from the price of class enrollment!:D
