Finally got some clean passes with the talon running "right" LOL. Still on stock suspension with nothing done for traction except motor mounts. Tires are goodyear eagle all seasons, which aren't too bad but aren't very good either. First pass of the night was a 13.512 @ 110 with a 2.363 60'.

Second pass was the best of the night with a 13.489 @ 110 with a 2.427 60'. After this I turned the boost up and went slower, then turned it down and went slower yet. So the sweet spot seems to be 22psi, with half of it going past the rings and out through the crank-case breathers. So basically anything over 22psi and I'm overworking the turbo so much that it's just blowing hot air.

My 60's have a lot of room for improvement though. I was launching at 3 grand and slipping the clutch through about half of first then peddling 2nd. My buddies that were watching said my rear end was squatting like crazy, so I need to do something to stiffen it up for sure. In the end I was happy that I ran a 110mph trap but sad when I saw a rwd car run a 12.2 with a 111mph trap, then watched a evo run 11.9 @113.

Comments/Tips/Suggestions???

Glad to see someone from Indiana. I live south of you, near Terre Haute or Bloomington.

Yep, with the mph, you have the power to run low 12s for sure.

Being fwd, on a true street tire, if you're getting anything in 2.1-2.2 60' range, thats about as good as its gonna get. I'd try lowering your tire pressure in 5psi increments starting at 30psi to see what gives you the best 60'

But when you're looking for the best times you can get out of the car, a set of slicks will be inevitable.
I see a lot of srts pulling 1.6-1.8 60' on 2step, slicks and mounts in your power range

good times man. Its definitely gonna be a struggle from here on out to hook up. You're gonna have to get slicks and just a lot of practice. When I was on a 16g with slicks I was still spinning all of 1st and some of 2nd. I think the best things for us FWD guys would be tires, suspension, and boost by gear or MPH. Hopefully dsmlink can come out with this as an option in the near future.

I think they've pretty much given the advice up above me, so I'll just congratulate you on getting out to the track! That's the first step, getting out there, getting that seat time, and enjoying yourself. Obviously being fwd you're going to have to invest in some better front tires and some suspension mods to get the potential out of it, but you're putting down decent power for sure!

Once again nice job! (jshortman on the local indy forums)

Btw any Indy people who are interested, I will be going to ORP this Tuesday April 20th to make some first season passes. Pm me if you would like to meet up, I am in Bloomington.

Thanks guys. I did some stuff to stiffen the rear suspension this week, so that should help. But I definitely feel that tires and equal-length halfshafts will really work wonders for me. My front passenger tire breaks lose waaaay too easily on the street, and the halfshafts should really help with that. I should have some new front tires and the halfshafts before the season's over and hopefully the car will be able to make some more passes.

And for the record my mods for my runs are as follows:

Bastard 20g at about 22psi
FMIC
Wally 190
2g mas
40% e85 and 92 mix
550cc injectors OMG
Exedy stage 1 clutch
Stock suspension
205/55/16 Goodyear Eagles 440 Treadwear rating (the lower the number the stickier the tire right???)
Horrible compression motor

Alright guys I just did some serious stiffening to my rear springs today and set up my homeade dual stage boost controller. Low boost is right at 15psi and high is set to 22. Thing is working great. I'm very confident that I'll hit a high 12 next time out as long as the car is still running like it is now.

So I went back to the track this past Tuesday. Changes made were a super-stiff rear suspension and a dual stage boost controller, low boost spiking to 17psi then settling at 15, high boost changes were made throughout the night. All in all I ran 15 times! So I got a lot of launch practice in. In the end though I barely bested my old 60' with a 2.313.

Ran the 1/4 in 13.3 @ 112
Best mph of the night at 114

This was with about 60lbs of tools in the car since none of my friends could make it. I made tire pressure changes and tried tons of different launch techniques but as long as I'm on these tires it looks like spinning my way to a crappy 60' is my best option right now.

What 60's were you hitting the other night?
I took my srt to the track a few weeks ago for the hell of it and managed numerous 2.2s and even a 2.19 on a crappy track. Not that those short times are even good.
I believe 1st gear boost is pcm limited to ~10-12psi to help with traction

Maybe you should go lower on your low boost setting?
What was your tire pressure?

When we were there, there was a 4door integra running 13.3s and trapping 119mph, LOL

Looks like its slicks and 2step time for you!

60's were mostly in the 2.4 range with two 2.3's. I'm not sure if there's a way I can lower the low boost setting since I'm using the stock bcs restrictor as my "low boost" path. Tire pressure started at 25psi and finally lowered to 21, seemed to do best around 24 though. I kinda feel dumb but I don't even know what a 2step is LOL.

Don't ever feel dumb when asking to learn more!

A 'two step' refers to a Two Step Rev Limiter. One step is set to limit RPM on the starting line for your launch, and the second step is your upper rev limit.

On my GSX I can push in the clutch and mash the gas pedal. It revs to 5000 and holds there until I release the clutch. Then as the RPM reaches 7800, it limits again to prevent over-reving.

A 'Two Step' helps to keep your launch consistent as you don't have to worry about what RPM to hold the gas pedal at. It works the same on any car brand, not just DSMs.

Thanks for the good info. However I don't think I'll get a 2step just yet. It sounds like they help more with consistency, which isn't my problem. My problem is just that I'm consistently bad LOL.

I think the biggest problem right now is the tires. Going to get some new ones next month and probably do equal-length halfshafts at the same time and see how it does..... Actually thinking about it I'll do them separately and so I can see how well each mod helps.

The 2step(stutterbox) will help when you have the slicks/drs on the car and are getting some traction. Then you can build a few psi at the line. It will just make your problem worse on regular street tires, LOL

The equal length driver side shaft(awd setup) should help some
You might want to think about going with a lsd in the future as well. Its pretty costly though.
The limiter straps that bastarddsm was refering to might be something to think about too.
I would like to see some pics of this setup

Most srts on slicks and stock turbos, will pull 1.8-2.0 60's with no problem. I've even seen a few hit 1.6-1.7s. If you can get in this range, you should be in the mid to low 12s and maybe a high 11 if you really click a good 60'

try some limter straps on the front end. The front end rising and rear squatting is taking all the weight off your front tires.

Agreed, I'd think some coilovers would help. Preloading the rear of the car by lowering the rear and moderately raising the front will help gain some traction, along with sticky tires of course.
