So lately my stock car alarm has been going off at random times. 5 times that I know of in the past 3 days. It has done it before but was few and far between and was never a big deal. So I am out to fix this crap because it is annoying and embarrassing.

I have notice that sometimes at night my dome lights don't come on when I open the door. Sometimes they come one but go out while the door is open. So I am thinking that it is the door jam switch. My guess is that the switch is moving just enough while the door is shut to trigger the sensor setting the alarm off.

Any ideas? Possible solutions? Anyone who has had a similar experience?

Thanks

i believe i have seen this same exact thread just last week...

the SHORT answer to fix your problems... the stock alarm is destined to fail after 13 years. the Mechanics of it are cheap and after so and so long of hard driving, hot temps, cold temps, simple weatherization, they just start acting up.

Now what does this tell you you should do? Go out and get a brand new alarm from walmart or autozone or wherever you get decent quality parts. Since you have a stock alarm it's allready wired up, just cut the wiring from the new alarm and swap them out. 15 minute job (including looking for your wire strippers and stripping them)

EDIT: To add to this. Simply, the vibration sensor has malfunctioned. You can check the fuse for it, but i doubt that is the problem.

Well I didn't see anything while searching. I'll look again. I am not putting some POS wal-mart alarm on my car. If it is something mechanical I will just replace the piece but I was just curious if anyone else has had issues. I understand that the car is old. Just one more thing on my list to fix.

My alarm did that too in the school parking lot. Made me so mad. I had no way of turning it off either since it doesn't work on my remote and when i got in to turn the car on the thing was still goin off. I had to unhook my battery to shut it off. Talk about embarrassing.

Every now and than a loud vibration sound will come from around the passenger side firewall even when the car is off. No idea what it is

...i had an issue with mine going off when i unlocked the door and opened it. It turned out there is some sort of wire that goes to the handle, and when I changed out a broken handle i didnt hook it up. id have to unlock the passenger door to disable it.

Then after i installed a turbo timer, this seemed to kill the alarm, as long as i locked the door with the car still running.

you could always pull a fuse or something.

Guys I've been having the same problem. I don't use my remote, i will just daily lock my doors after stepping out, anywhere from 5 mins to completey random my alarm will go off. Stays on for 5 - 10 mins then shuts off. I dont wanna replace my alarm i just want to cut it. Anyone have a picture of some type showing where to find the alarm and which wire to slice.

just take the fuse out for the alarm or there is a sercurity box right by ## fuses under the steering wheel just pop the wires out and done!
