I currently installed dsm link on my 95 gst. it has a 6 bolt swap with 9.5:1 forged pistons teflon coated stock head ported and polished with a 3 angle valve job and stock cams
car runs an fp green with 950cc injectors and a walboro 255 fuel pump. i was wondering if any one could tell me where i should set the timing and if necesary i can try and post a log up later tonight. thank you
sean

Are you talking about where to set your base timing or how to tune your timing maps? Sorry, but it's hard to tell from your post. Base timing is a simple answer-- it should be set to 5 degrees BTDC. Tuning the maps, however, would require some additional information to include a log or two.

im gonnna log the car tonight and post of the maps. Im not sure where to set the timing through out the throttle. The car will have 5 counts of knock at certain times and im not sure if its fuel related or timing. thanks for the response

im running an aem wideband. The boost is set at 21lbs but im sure it spikes. I have the log but im not sure if its gonna work to host it on here so ill try any way. If it doesnt please let me know so I can email it to some one. thanks

Do some 3rd gear pulls from 2k to 7k.

I would bring the air/fuel down to 11:1 and use the stock 2g timing curve and go from there.

EDIT, just realised there was alot of pulls in that log.

Wow that is alot of knock considering your pulling that much timing. What octane are you running?

I would turn the boost down until you get that knock under control.

im running 93 octane.Im going to turn the boost down but I was wondering if I should pull timing or add? What do you think from that log? The cars tuned real conservative but the timing is shot. Please let me know what you think.
thanks

Sean,

In the presence of knock, don't add timing as this will very likely aggravate the condition. I would do it like this:

1. Get your A/F to a resonable range across the board (11:1 on 93 is fine)
2. Set your desired boost level
3. Set the timing to stock 2G maps as indicated above and go down from there to eliminate knock

Because you have a higher compression ratio, the motor will not be able to run as much boost and timing as a lower compression setup. 9.5:1 is pretty aggressive for a turbo motor so the one parameter that is sacrificed is timing. If you run your logs and have set the boost and the A/F where you want them, start backing the max timing advance down in increments of two degrees until your knock goes to 1-2 counts. Back it down one more degree and that's what you'll be able to get away with on pump gas.

Keep in mind that pump doesn't have the knock suppression of higher octane fuels so you'll need to play around to get the combination right. Don't be afraid to run low timing (8-10 degrees max advance) since you have forged internals. It may not feel as punchy or crisp, but there has to be a tradeoff and I would rather you subtract timing than boost. The general rule is boost over timing on pump (to a point). Unfortunately, I can't see your logs to comment on those.

Keep us posted and I hope that made sense,

Andy

You haven't dialed in your fuel tirms... Your LTFTlow is maxed at 12.9% and LTFTmid is at 9.5%. You need to set your fuel trims within +/-5% before bothering trying to tune WOT. In my own opinion you are running WAY to lean on pump gas. I am lucky to get 10.8:1 on pump gas on my setup without h20/meth. You're fuel curve is also really choppy. Around 31 seconds you lean out to 11.8 at 5400 RPM. The last thing you want to do on a high compression engine is run lean like that while cylinder pressure is at its peak.. No doubt that is contributing to your skyrocketing RAW knock..

Without a Map sensor( GM3bar, GM3.3bar) it's imposable to tell if your MAF is calibrated correctly or what boost lever you are runnin, but from your logs it shows boost about 23.5psi at 5500RPM?? You should bring that down to about 18-19. Zero out your fuel & timing sliders. Set your LTFT's & Idle settings (if any) and then start off with a 10.5:1 2g est after 4000rpm + with Zero timing and go from their.

I post a while ago how to get those things dialed in. Let me see If I can find the thread for you...

Edit: Here you go... http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234596. Post up a cruse and idle log when your finished so we can help you from their..
Good luck!!

i lowered the boost to 20 and it seems to run better. adjusted the timing a tad also. I forget to save the log when i logged it before. Also added in 3 gallons of 110 to see if that would help with the knock and it did but my air fuel was at 10.8 at wot in 3rd gear. I was debating on bringing the car to pruven and having them tune it. Any one ever go there?

Didnt want to make a new thread so I will bring this one back. My buddy just got dsmlink for his 97gsx and I was wondering what the base timing should be set at for his car. Its a stock 7 bolt with a 16g on it. Its going to run off regular 93 pump gas. Thanks

5 degrees BTDC like usual

Yeah anything above 3 your loosing power. If you mean where should you be I would guess 9-10 timing according to my stock maps on 230-260 load which is where I was with almost the same setup. (Evo8-9 Big Map more aggressive) then yours probably.

If you have a 1g CAS alittle more then half on the mounting on head is a good starting point, mine likes it a hair over half anymore or less cars stock maps don't like it.

With Ecuflash I see timing from 12-15* with my setup w/meth injection on 20lbs.
