I have tried for the past 3 months trying to find new/used shifter cables for my 1990 talon tsi and i was wondering if any one had a site or contact i could use to find some or give me a reason why when i try to move the shifter side to side in neutral it barely moves ive tried to grease up the moving parts and it would seem to loosen up for a little but restick.

thank you ahead of time for your help

i also didnt know what part of forum to post sorry if its wrong place :(

its bad too cause i love this car so much :( but parts are killing me but i gotta say when she is shifting right she gets up and goes

i took it apart the first time but after that i just left together too much of a pain to do everytime i wanted to drive

try DSMGRAVEYARD they might have just what you both need. their number is (269) 226-4463. if they dont have any they will help you get a set. they also can more and likely get a new set from mitsubishi directly without the high cost.

a 91-94 shifter cable will work with a little ajustment. i have a 1990 gst and im using the 90 shifter and trans with a 92 shifter cable. i never ran into 1 problem with it at all. it only took me 30 min to install.

if one of yal would like i have a set i would be willing to part with in good shape.

im making a post on the part outs for my 1990 gst. ill give you first dibs on the shifter cables out of it. i just swapped the 90 cables back into it and the 90 shifter and solid shifter mounts and end bearings so i could sell the new set of 91-94 cables that were in it. it has the oem 90 cables in it now.

hey guys, i have a 90 talon with a 91-94 trans in it and the guy i bought it from didnt swap out the shifter or the cables.... so if ya still need some 90 cables we might be able to work something out... if i can find all 91-94 pieces i need to get this working... Pm me if ## still looking

Yeah. The 91-94 cabcles WILL work, you just need to adjust them. I think one of the cables is a bit shorter? Someone confirm? I'm LIKELY about to have the same issue as I just bought a 90. ;P

Probally won't help you much but the Pull-a-Part here in Lynnwood Washington has 2 1g's a 1989 Laser RT and a 1990 Eclipse GS-T's with shifter cables still. Last time I had to replace my cable's was a biatch to install, found out later why. I had a 1992 and was trying to install 1990 cables. LOL

A couple things about changing cables on a 90 but first make sure that they are the problem. Take the cable off and make sure the transmission isn't binding when you try to move the actuator on the transmission. You may have an internal problem and you should verify it before changing cables. You CAN change to 91-94 cables but the brackets that mount to the transmission will have to be sourced as well. The difference in the cables is due not just to the different shifter but the length of the shifter arms on the transmission. I've heard of several people swapping to a later transmission and only changing the brackets but your results may vary. To be absolutely sure, I'd contact Shep trans, TRE, or one of the other DSM tranny shops and see what they say you'd need to properly change the cables and retain your 90 trans. They do it for a living so they'd have the most experience to draw on.

Ever get this resolved?

I'm swapping in a 23 Spline 92 AWD trans into my 90'.

The differences are Cable Length and the Cable Bracket mount on the tranny. If you grab the backet matching the year range of the trans (90' and 91-94 are different) you're good with any cables with a bit of adjustment.
