So I was drivin down the freeway today and was just about to pass someone when i dropped down to 4th.. went to accelerate and nothing. Engine revved as if it was in neutral. I was like what the heck, so i went to 3rd, nothing and so on. Finally I coasted off to the shoulder and come to figure out, i had no gears. I can shift into them easily with little to no effort but it just doesnt engage. to my dismay (AND STUPIDITY) the clutch res. was empty. So a buddy jetted down to the local autoparts store n got my some clutch fluid. We filled it back up and bled the system out as neccessary, still nothing. So I am assuming that at worst im needing a new clutch kit. If so, I am dead broke....so money is definitely an issue. my question is:

Are the kits on ebay (95-99 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE CLUTCH KIT 2.0,2.0L NON-TURBO : eBay Motors (item 150423297670 end time Mar-23-10 16:15:54 PDT)) worth a darn? I mean the price is within what I can afford to spend. but if they are piles of junk I would also like to know. Any suggestions?

btw i have a 2g 420a 1999 non-turbo

Could be broken axles, I have been in a car that down shifted to 3rd and broke his axles, it engaged in all gears but only free revved. Just something to look at before dropping your trans.

Thanks for the advice. would the car roll freely even with the axles busted? how do I go about checking the axles??

edit:: you should be able to see just by looking underneath rt??

Yes the car would roll freely, and you should be able to see from under the car.

clutch felt normal, everything felt normal until i dropped it into 4th and found out I didnt have any power. engine revved fine, no abnormal sounds. gears still shift fine with no problems...just seems like the clutch isnt engaging to transfer power from motor to tranny

Alright, Well I dont mean to offer you any horror stories. But with ebay when it comes to clutches I have had terrible luck. Absolutely terrible. I would and will refrain from referring any clutches to you on ebay. check the local parts store. I bought my clutch locally for a 215.00 CDN. Just a thought. But from what I can see it still looks fine.

was your clutch slipping? Your clutch could've just burnt out. Whab

what about the slave and master cylinder are they leaking?

+1 to the slave, master, or line leaking.

Look for fluid on the driver side floorboards.

Spray your clutch lines with a fast drying cleaner like brake cleaner and pump the clutch a couple times and check for wet spots or leaks.

Lastly spray the slave and connecting lines clean and do the same. Don't forget to check the slave boot for fluid before cleaning.

I'd like to figure out where all the fluid in your clutch line went before figuring out engagement issues.

+2 on checking the master and slave cylinders. I had the same problem when i replaced one and the pressure from the new cylinder actually forced a leak at the slave cylinder. The only difference is that i could not get it in gear with engine on. But check those first then move on to axles and clutch assembly

honestly iv bought alot of shit from the JUNK so if your not 100% sure what your problem is and cant seem to get it just go to the junk and replace what you think your problem is until you find it, most of the junks items are 1/3 of the actual price and work great, thats just what i do 80% of the time.

No leaks as far as slave or master cylinder...although the linkage that goes from the slave cylinder into the tranny is really loose/wobbly....more than what I think it should be, do they have a tendancy to break??

Check the bolts and see how the connection is. I once had that happen to me. You think that your transmission/clutch is gone. But its not. I also replaced mine to a steel braided. I do not know if they usually break or not. But I do know that bolts sometime come loose or break. I would advise you to look at that problem more closely. More than likely its your issue. Let me know how that goes. A steel braided clutch line goes for about twenty dollars plus shipping on ebay. Hope you fix the problem soon. GL.

Wait. Before you buy anything. Does your car start. If it starts does it go into gear. When it goes into gear and you release the clutch does the car go. If not, your axle probably came out. Do the FREE STUFF before assuming and buy things! Right!
If it still dies after releasing clutch then most likely it's your clutch!
Another situation could be your empty res. There's no pressure to push anything. GL

I agree with that. But axles dont just go out. There is always a reason. The no pressure is something to think about. If its a 1G maybe its his bushings in his pedal.

Its a 2g, I can start the car, idle, and put it into gear, rev it and NOTHING, still have a feeling like something is not engaging.

Have you checked the shift linkage?

It's possible your just not getting into any gears.

Have someone watch the top of your transmission where the linkage comes in while you shift 1st-5th or vice-versa. I've had the bolts come out and you'd be surprised how much it feels the same whether your actually shifting or not.

My axle's came out when I down shift to 4th before. I left the car in gear and release the clutch pedal. No go. It was just a thought!;)

Did you start the car and put it in first gear and let go of the clutch pedal yet! Do that first so I know where you are at!

And did the car go. If it still creeps forward like starting the car in first gear then you can eliminate that the problem is the axles.
Did you check the master and slave to see if there's fluid. Now you might want to get fluid in the system and gravity bleed!
