Well its that time again.my 610cc injectors are at there ceiling and I'm nowhere near as fast as I want the car to be.I'm probably laying down a little under 300whp now but never dynoed.income taxes will be here any day and its time to ditch my afc and my now incompetent injectors.I want to drop in this with my tax return.

*now for my question.what engine management to run?after 4 days of searching I'm down to ecmlink v3 lite or ostrich emulator with jackal.I read the complete 13page jackal thread and still have no real understanding of how it works or why I should go with it over link.I'm looking for the most cost effecient/with the easiest tuning approach since I will be learning to tune this system on my own.I want to smack a 11 this summer even if its a 11.95 ill be happy on a td05h 20g.any help would be great because all my searching and he/she says and technical terms have me so confused I'm about to just say link lite and call it a day,but like I said I would like the most cost efficient solution if possible that will give me room to grow because I'm sure I will get bored of this setup with some seat time.thanks for any replies.

It's the cheapest way to tune, buy an ostrich and logging cable, and the tuning system is FREE! It works great, and it's pretty easy to set up and tune.

Yea the only weak part about link lite is 23psi.I know ill be creeping into the 30psi range in the higher gears.now with jackal I so far understand I will need a eprom, ostrich v2,gm iat sensor?,3 bar gm map sensor,if I can use my logger cable from my palm logger that would be great and download jackal.now what I don't understand is all the important stuff left after this because it starts getting technical with the whole sd stuff and what not.oh and I would really like to have launch control for a few reasons on top of a nice launch.will jackal do this?

Well, if it helps any, we're putting together a set of videos on our website for the ECMLink application. This one might be of interest just as a starting point.

But we have a few others done too with at least 4 or 5 more planned.

Drop me a line if you have any questions. We've been active in the DSM community for 15+ years now and still own and track our DSMs regularly. So we're not going anywhere.

I would agree with jrohner, Jackal sounds perfect for you.

Yup, for Jackal, EPROM ECU, Ostrich (v1 or v2, doesn't matter), GM IAT sensor, and the MAP sensor doesn't have to be a 3 bar. Actually, if you are looking for more than 30 psi, a freescale 4 bar sensor would make more sense, and much cheaper than the GM 3 bar. Yes you can use your logging cable from your palm logger, but you won't be saving money because you need a serial-USB adapter (Keyspan USA19-HS, like $30-40) and a null modem to make it work with a laptop. Jackal has a 2-step rev limiter (launch control) and NLTS as well.

Honestly, my best advice for you would be to join the forum and read the Wiki here. There is a ton of information in the wiki and the forums, and that should answer a lot of your questions. Secondly, we have a chat setup where you can go ask any questions and get answers immediately. I know it might be a little overwhelming at first, but IMHO we have some of the nicest and most helpful people around, and you'll learn a lot in no time. If you have any further questions about Jackal specifically, feel free to PM me.

I was hot to run Jackal on my Talon I just got, to my dismay it had a non-eprom ECU. So to run Jackal I'm looking at around $700 LOL. Pretty steep for "free" software. I'm gonna eventually run it tho I just gotta add the pieces gradually-first being a wideband. Maybe by next summer I can be running it.

The cable from your palm logger will work with a null modem going to your PC

There is also MMSD (modified version of MMCD that most palm setups use) you can use on the palm itself, however it is no longer supported. To go to the PC, you may need a serial to usb adapter.

The IAT sensor can be had from many cars in the junkyard, otherwise they're about $30 new IIRC.

Lots of us use the Freescale MAP sensor. With an enclosure they are about $30. Have you been to Jackal forums?
DS-MAP.NET • Index page
you can also find the chat room there.

Jackal is pretty easy with all the people there to help.

Well from what I see I have lots more reading to do LOL.I want to make sure I pick the right way the first time so I won't have to do this again.I guess 1450cc would be a little to big for jackal,so I may go for some 1150cc instead.jackal and ecmlink both have great things to offer.this will be a hard decission.thanks to everyone who replied.

I read that this morning somewhere on the ds-map forum.I guess anything over 1200cc will be hard to idle is what I read.oh and ill be running straight 93 v-power.

Oh wow that's great news!thanks 91stocker.I was a little concerned about the 1150cc cutting the cake for my final goals, which are hx40 at 30-35 psi 500-550whp.I think the 1450cc will do fine for this and if when I get there in about two years I end up needing more power then ill have already enjoyed the 1450cc long enough.
