I just don't understand how they work at an auto parts store but, don't even know about the most common auto brands. I also dislike when they don't listen to what you say and question it.

This is because the big chains do not care. They will hire anyone who can use a computer and work for minimum wage. They then cut the hours of the ppl who actually know something about cars because they "make to much money" an hour. :notgood:

I'm slightly bitter because when O'reilly's bought CSK/Murray's, this is what they told me. They said they "could not afford my rate of pay." As if I made a ton of money to begin with! haha! Everyone in the store recieved a pay cut and hours cut. I'm still there, but I don't know for how much longer.

As for the OP's experience, that sucks the kid didn't know such a simple fact. However, I have run into many many, many a person that has no idea what kind of car they are driving. LOL

My best friend drives a 1997 Talon TSi AWD that is about 100% stock. He had a wicked exhuast leak so we went to O'Reilly's to get a turbo gasket setm, manifold gasket, and some exhuast pipe flange gaskets.

I tell the guy to order/lookup parts for a 97 Eagle Talon TSi pause a second and then say All Wheel Drive.

He looks at me dumbfounded and says "Eagle Doesnt make anything 4 wheel drive" I am like whatever just look the parts for an Eclipse GSX then. He shakes head and starts to mutter something so I tell him to just look up the damned parts its the same car. How many times in a month do you Laser/Talon guys have to deal with people not knowing what you are driving?

The funniest thing is that MOST cars AMC Eagle made were 4 wheel drive.

Yeah The AMC eagle was a bit before it's time. Who knows what would have happened if it came out 10 years later.

Wow I didnt know about the mustangs taking dex III in a manual trany. I thought saturns where the only cars that did. Only car I have ever worked on that did.

This is hilarious I used to be the parts guy to come too around here. I worked at AZ racing for about 4 years and ran that joint. Figurativley of course I would never be a manager for 8 and some change haha. I personally witnessed wrong parts being sold everyday more than once. Love every second of it, The o2 sensor comment is awesome I used to have the number listed on the counter and 3 in stock always. :aha:

I guess the problem really isn't that people don't know shit about cars. It is more like they don't listen to what the #### you tell them.

They need to learn either 1) what the hell they are talking about or, 2) to shut their damn mouth and look up the part I tell them to, or 3) let me look it up and order it. Advance Auto used to have a computer turned around the other way so customers could look up their own damn parts. Every auto store needs one of these.

Not since I moved down here I haven't really went to a part store.

Up in Iowa I would walk behind the counter at O'reillys all the time and get my own parts.

No, I never worked there.

Some Civics apparently use 10W-30 in auto trannys. This is from Honda's foreman I talked to recently.

Remember, a lot of people are really stupid, (this includes customers). It's like when people bring in their "alternators" and it's a smog pump. Or a wiper motor thinking it's a starter.

You think you have a problem with getting parts at any auto parts store... Every time I go in there needing a 63t specific part I randomly pick a car that had one. The looks I get when I have the same person looking up different parts when I go in there.

"VR4?? Didn't you just get XXX for a eclipse a week ago and a tsi before that? How many cars do you have??"

It was worth it when four of the guys were on a smoke break outside when I popped the hood and and it was all oohs and aahs. LOL

My favorite is when I had the guy on the phone asking if they had a part in stock. He asks what kind of car I have, i tell him 95 talon n/t. I hear some clicks as he types it in then asks me if it's AWD or FWD. :ohdamn: They must just have a list of options to choose from for the specific cars was my only thought.

Orielly's system is like that.

Year
make
model
then it asks

turbo?

FWD?

AWD?

M/T or AUTO?

It's pretty idiot proof.
