have a 95 tsi awd 5 speed and have just finnished my rebuild. i have a problem now cant shift in to a gear when my car is running.when the car is not running i can shift through all gears. i have bleed my clutch clutch is real stiff. my master is not leaking and my clutch is not leaking and also none of my lines leak at all.also when the car is running and i try to shift into reverse it grinds but not in any of the gears.:barf:

Check to make sure that your slave cylinder is working. Did you check the clutch pedal freeplay? It is possible that your disc is not being dissengaged all the way. Is all your shift linkage tight?

i will check the slave in a little bit. i know that the pedal is hard not spungey and springs right back. i dont know whats going on so i have to look at everything need sedjestions asap so i can start a list and start checking .

make sure you bled the clutch the CORRECT way. If you bleed this like brakes on a car (the way I did ) it won't work. check the forms on this site and it will tell you what to do. Make sure the clutch fork is in the right position.

That is very very odd. with the way a transaxle is set up if you are able to get it into gear whithout the car running then with it running even if the clutch is messed up it still should grind the teeth on the syncro ring in the syncro assembly. Sometimes when shifting whith the car turned off it may feel like you are getting fully into gear but you are really just engaging the syncro sleeve onto the the syncro ring and not mating the syncro and sleeve to the clutching teeth on the gear.

I want to say that your linkage is loose or way out of adjustment. Put the car up on stands so that all 4 wheels are off the ground. Have sopmeone sit in the car with it running and press the clutch to the floor and hold it. When they do this try to physically shift the transmission into gear at the transmission itself. I believe pulling the shifter arm up and pushing it towards the back of the car is first gear. If you can get it to shift in and let the clutch out and the wheels spin then it is not the clutch it is your linkage.

Also with the car in the air and not running shift it into first gear then press the clutch and start it. let the clutch out and see if the wheels start spinning. This would eliminate it being a linkage problem.

Did you check and make sure you intalled the tranny correctly, and make sure you lined every thing up?

yes it could. As well check your bolts going from your transmission to your engine. There could be some air in your system make sure to check that.

You remove the tranny and redo the clutch job, put the tranny in 1st and start the car with your foot of the clutch(disconnect switch), if there is a clutch issue you will tell. Again redo clutch job and adjust mastercylinder or master first.

Pull trans, replace with a new clutch release bearing, and make sure the realease bearing clip is properly holding the fork to the bearing.

if you never took the bearing out how do you know that it is fine. I just did a clutch job that had the same issue and it was seized on the shaft, and the clip was broken causing the same symptoms your car is having.
