OK so I just bought a new trans, the guy said it came out of a 97 GSX but the serial number is W5M33-2-NPZT which is a 95-96 GSX trans! I have a 95-96 t case will the two bolt up? I don't want to burn the trans but I think it would but I'm not sure and need some help

I thought all 2g trans were interchangeable as long as they are awd to awd or fwd to fwd, turbo wise.

Same for the 1g's. Simple search should give you great results.

95-96 trans requires a 95-96 t-case, 97-99 trans requires a 97-99 t-case :)

no they're not interchangeable the 95-96 trans must be matched with a 95-96 t-case and 97+ must match any 97+tcase thats how they're interchangeable thats y im having trouble if i have a 97 trans w/a 95-96 tcase it'll burn out my vc. but like i said the guy said its a 97 but it has the serial number of a 95-96 stamped on it

Hope this isnt a stupid question but i honestly dont know, so will a 7 bolt awd transmission/tc bolt up to a 6 bolt motor..?

You can put either a 1g or 2g engine in your car, only thing you must watch are:

ECU stays in the car no matter what engine you run.
Trans must be AWD for an AWD car and FWD for a FWD car (duh).
Flywheel must be drivetrain and engine specific. AWD 6 bolt for a 1g engine in an AWD car.
Trans and t-case must match as I stated above.
Trans stays in the car no matter what engine you run.
FWD and AWD ECU's are the same on 2G's, only difference is FWD has a speed limiter and Autos have an extra computer to control the transmission.
Lastly, you must have the correct starter plate which is the one attached to your transmission. so it stays the same.

So would I be able to use a 1G transmission into my 2G. I ask this because the 1G has a cable versus my 2G transmission that is VSS.
