$1,700 at the machine shop is outrageous. You can buy an assembled short block for that much. $1,700 (machine shop) and $978 (labor)... $2,700 for labor all together. As everyone else, I do not totally agree with everything this guy says or does. $341 just for gaskets then another $75 for fluids not including oil, jeez I can't look at the bill anymore.

I know for a fact a OEM oil pump is $130 He literally raped you! RIDICULOUS!

Where? (Sorry to highjack)

I would show your dad this thread so he can read the input of people who are into these cars and know the ins and outs of them...

Show him some threads that show various tests that have been performed. How strong are the rods... How strong are the pistons... How strong the crank is... How much should this cost... There HAS to be info on this forum about that stuff.

I would take him to the DSMTuners vendor's websites and go through each thing that was bought so you can show him how much he overcharged.

Like I said before though, get it in writing that it can handle 700hp and prove the guy wrong.

Oh yeah, I have told Ryan that we need to go down to this guys shop and demand his car back and all of his parts. We could then put it together for half the price at our buddies house.

I started to also wonder why he said he is going to bore it out 40 over. If it's still stock bore and not too far out of spec., a good hone is all that's needed. Going 40 over right away is going to make it much harder to rebuild the motor again as the new pistons will need to be custom made or you'll need to get sleeves.

ROFL OMG another classic example of why this mechanic is a fu**ing retard. The block was orignally bored .030 over. He had a buddy do it for free and it was a great job. The machine work was done on the block before we took the motor to him. All that needed to be done was assembly and install, and he managed to F that up bad. At the beginning of the process (January 21st, 2009) - OVER A FU**ING YEAR AGO - he made a HUGE deal about how he would have to custom order these .030 overbored pistons to accomidate the cylinder. Well I guess in the year Ryan's car was sitting outside the shop, the mechanic forgot that it was bored .030 over and ordered the N/A Pistons. He went to install them and they didn't fit :ohdamn:. When he started looking for pistons again, he couldn't find the pistons in a .030 overbore so he decided it would be best to rebore the cylinders to a .040 over. I hate this guy. The scary thing is that I was going to have my old GSX's tranny rebuilt buy this guy if he could give me a good price. THANK GOD I DIDN'T

Guys LOL, thanks for the part suggestions but I know our cars in and out, you don't have to tell me what to get haha. Not trying to be rude. Also, why would I buy a 6bolt? I have a 99. Thrust washer fix ftw.

Now, back to the thread. He is also degreaseing, sanding, and painting my engine bay. And I have tried telling him what pistons, rods, oil pump, timing belt etc. needs to be bought but I guess he didn't listen. As for the .040 bore. It was a .030 and I wanted OEM Mitsu pistons but he said he could not get them, I LOL'd hard at that and showed him the slowboy link. He then said to me that the pistons were already ordered and he had to have the machinist bore it out to .040. Boggles my mind.

O, and the part about the N/A pistons in jimmers post....ya...it's true.

That's about the biggest rip I've ever seen. These engines are not very expensive to work on. I seriously can't imagine spending that kind of money on just the engine, especially THAT engine.

So you're saying that you told him what you wanted, and he did something much different, and handed you this crazy bill? Oh, and his spark plug choice was poor and a waste of money too.

I agree, go to the machinist and get EVERYTHING back and go somewhere else. Don't pay a freaking penny to this idiot who is just trying to steal money. Turned out to be a "good friend" huh... Any garage you get a motor fully built at should warranty their OWN work regardless of what is used as long as it's damage is from the garages error.

Even built 7 bolts can still walk as any motor can walk. Just remember, you have OEM bearings in now, once he replaces them, they will no longer be OEM and whos to say he'll install to the proper specs. At least karking has a warranty and it's all ready assembled to be dropped in and is much much cheaper by half.

For that price, you can buy a FULLY built engine (2.0, 2.3, 2.4) from a reputable shop that will handle 700hp easily.

Well, no sense on trying to undo what's already been done. Best thing you can do now is live and learn.

Is the motor assembled? Are the parts already paid for? If not, get your shit and get the hell out of dodge. The only mechanic I want working on MY car is either me, or a DSMer who I trust.

The LAST person I would want building my engine is a domestic guy, or any shop for that matter who charges outrageous prices for little gain. Hell, I have a few friends up here in Canada who run faster than some shops, and have a lot less in their cars, and do the work THEMSELVES.

all i can say is.. i am sorry. next time... hit me up... and i will get you taken care of. or go to another shop reputable for dsm's and have your work sent off to them....

you are able to purchase the parts yourself if you have a source.

what machine work was done?

I am not exactly sure. When we dropped everything off the block was already cleaned and bored out to .030 over with the intentions of just doing an OEM rebuild because you can get OEM Mitsu pistons .030 over. The crank was also micropolished and cut down .10 by the best place in MO. The name has slipped my mind for right now...But now, its a .040 and I have no idea what else they have done. I don't ask questions anymore because I get a retarded response so I just let the two retards (my dad and his mechanic) do the talking.

First get a warrany in writing, then throw some nitrous at it, get a refund and buy a built 7-bolt.

What I plan on doing :thumb:

The funny thing is, we could have shipped it to california, had you rebuild it, and ship it back and it would most definately be done already and for less money ROFL.

I'll make sure to update the thread with what happens. The mechanic is suppose to upload pictures of the engine to facebook. He has a group where he documents what he is doing. It's pretty funny.

But the engine he's getting now can handle 700hp...ROFL

:D, when he said that I about laughed in his face so hard. Regardless what he says it can hold, I only play for 300-400 range. Nothing more. And for some amusement for you guys, here are a couple pictures of the rust accumulated on my car for sitting outside for a year at his shop :barf:.

That is why this guy would have a lawsuit on his hands if he was dealing with me. This car has lost a tremendous amount of value just sitting for a year. This mother fu(ker pisses me off. On top of that, the car is STILL NOT DONE... I can't wait to see how shitty this thing runs.

It's been sitting for a year? And who's paying for this, your dad or you?

My Dad, which is why I can't really do anything about it. Funny thing is, it really isn't my dad paying for it. My grandma said she has given my dad enough to fix my car that we could have bought a whole new car already...but only $1100 of it has gone to my car so far. He uses it on bills and debt he is behind on. My grandma is to the point where she wants to actually go see the car and see if anything has been done. Pretty cool right?

Adam Sandler said it best, "Whoa, you gotta love your Grandma." :D I'd get her down there to see it. Maybe she will be more understanding of your situation, listen to what you're saying, and help you get an engine that's actually built.

Or I'd get a part time job and save up for a few months to get the engine you want. From the looks of it, your car will still be sitting there in a few months. Then take your car out of there, put your engine in and tell your dad he can keep the engine that's getting re-built when/if it ever gets done.

It's just sad that I am the 2nd owner of a car that maybe at the most had 5% rust on the body and now it has atleast 50%+ maybe more because it has been sitting. Not to mention it only has 70,000 miles on it.

It's just a little surface rust. It can be fixed. Be thankful your shock towers don't look like swiss cheese. Just trying to think that the glass is half full... Has the car been sitting there with the hood proped up?
