i was driving my gsx on 81 southbound today when i was in the slow lane and i got infront of a guy in his dumptruck when he said he has his cruise set at 65. i had to hit my brakes because the cars ahead of me were going slower.. the guy behind me didnt hit his brakes. he went slamming ito the back of me.. it damaged the hatch broke the center and left tail.. the bulb still works. i drove home.. the wing is also scratched and knicked.. my car was basically mint before this.. i am currently waiting for his insurance company to get back to me.. :banghead: luckly its his fault.. i didnt know what to do since i am 17. and this is my first accident being alone and the driver.. he didnt even attempt to brake...

Just make the insurance take care of it. You should be set. It was his fault so he has to pay for it.

Did the Police come? You may have trouble proving anything if you didn't get a police report.

Almost all trucking companys are what they call self insured, you will need to turn in 3 estimates to them and they usually pick the lowest estimte to pay you. Go to some local shops and tell them the situation, if they are any good they will know how to handle this situation. Make sure your lowest one, is one that the shop is 100 percent sure will fix all damages.(including hidden damage) Have two other shops write estimates higher than the first one.

If you go get an estimate go to dealerships. Dealerships charge you out the ass so they always quote higher. Then take the money and take your car to a cheaper place and you get a fixed car plus extra money.

If this is all the damage you received after being hit by a dump truck, then I'd say you really lucked out. Count your blessings that it wasn't worse.

I really hope you got a police report. I've been in three accidents(none my fault), and I get a police report every time and never had any problem. I've had friends get into accidents and only "exchang information", and had to fight every step of the way to get any kind of reimbursement. I know you're young and probably scared and nervous but don't worry about it, most body shops understand that this isn't something the everyday person goes through enough to what how to handle it, and they will walk you through this every step of the way. I know this because I'm a mechanic and during my career have even worked at a body shop and still work very closely with them.

Im pretty sure in PA the law states that if you rear end someone it is your fault, regardless or the situation. "Failure to maintain a safe distance" i believe. Im sure you wont have any problems getting insurance to cover it.

lesson learned, 'right of weight don't cut off heavy vehicles.. especially if the cars infront of them are braking and you require braking as soon as you 'jump in'.

the insurance company never got back to me yet.. i called 911 right when it happend then the cops or whatever were on the phone and then they asked if the car was driveable and i said yes then they said just exchange information and call insurance companys when u get home.. i have pics i will try and put um in a few minutes.. the damage isnt that bad like i said which i am very suprised. my back was hurting for a few hours after that accident.. i was expecting to get out and have my back crushed in like a soda can... im greatful for that.. but this is my daily driver and sucks now that its gunna take awhile to get it fixed.. and thanks xhackerekx ill check them out when the insurance company gets back to me..

btw its a 2000 peterbuilt dumptruck.. massive truck.. i do know how lucky i am 2 still be here.. he even said if i would have hit u and put u sideways u ###### would have died.. =x

youll DEF beable to milk this. broken light(which hacker says hell hook you up with) and a dented hatchlatch. no bumper damage? you may also want to get yourself into a hospital to get check out and complain a little...only if you want some extra dough. :)

That sucks man sorry to hear that this is why i dont like driving mine to to much iam always worried about that one retarded out there that might mess stuff up. Damage isn't to bad from the pictures i mean don't get me wrong still messed up but couldnt have been worst!! Good thing your ok and your car isn't totaled! good luck with the insurance tho hope everything works out for you!

Looks like the bumper was hit, but it doesn't show the damage being how dirty it is.
Now that you have pics give it a wash and see the whole damage, I'm sure you will need a new crash beam, bumper foamy inserts(2g have those in the back?), carbon hatch, gaskets, lights ect.

IMO, I would take it to 3 dealerships for quotes, because everyone knows they aren't the cheapest.

There may be a "right of weight" but in pa if you run into the back of someone then your SCREWED!!! Pa doesn't care what the case is. From past experiances in pa between myself and friends its kind of a default win situation for the vehicle that was rear ended. As long as you positively did not cut him off or do anything stupid then there is no reason for the truck driver to change his story or for yourself to feel guilty. Get your back checked out so its on record and get whatever you can get. It doesn't look bad at all. Your definatley getting a set of taillights and a hatch out of it. If the bumper was tagged then there might be some other issues. Its to hard to say what can be bent up though behind the bumper and taillights. ultimatlety you got really lucky. Last 2g I saw that was rear ended was my co-workers. he was doing 70 and was rear ended by a dodge dakota doing in excess of 90 and the back of the car was destroyed and deemed totaled as soon as the adjuster pulled into the driveway. frame damage beyond belief. hatch pushed into the roof. tailights into the trunk. it was a bad but even the passenger in the rear was ok and the glass didn't even break.
