All this cam talk recently has got me thinking i may be off on my cam choice. I origionaly heard great things about the BC cams. So last year i went with the BC 280's. The car ran for a little bit but due to other problems i had to rebuild. ( the point being, i didnt get to fully test / enjoy the new cams )

My current set up is an FP3586, punishment manifold, tial 44, jmf race intake manifold, 1250cc injectors, on a 2.3 engine. Head has crowler valves, springs, retainers ( not BC... Crowler ), fierra valve seals, ect...

I saw that people are loving the kelford cams but they do not make a true 280. ( its a 280/276 ) Knowing how much power the HKS cams make i looked into them, and saw that they now make a 280 degree set ( but i havnt heard anything about them )

For my setup are 280s too big? ( shifting around 8000rpm ) I thought with my turbo size that ide want the bigger cams. What do you guys think. I dont mind spending money if its going to benifit my cars power potential.

I'd normally be against someone telling a newb to search but this exact and or very similar Kelford/HK$ related question has come up quite a few times, to the point that it would take such little time to find the question you are looking for.

Kelford 280s are leaps and bounds larger than HK$ and require lots of work to be ran safely at higher RPM due to clearance issues... The Kelford 272 cams are biger than even the HKS280s.

I think that you should contact the people at Delta cams. They have been grinding cams based off HKS for a while and they just started grinding cams based off Kelford. Personally I would go with the 280 Kelford grind based on your set up. You have the stroker so the 280's shouldn't kill all of your bottom end power like they would on a 2.0

I've heard that FP4's best fit the application of the stroker because they have higher lift than many other cams which is mainly what you need in a stroker, especially with a big turbo.

Please let me know if I am wrong, I am about 90 percent sure on this.

Well you might be interested in this thread that I started on testing a few cams I have recently finished my test of the Bc272 and I am very impressed with them. I adjusted my cam gear setting as follows Intake 5 degrees retard and the exaust 5 degrees advance. the car idles very smoothly and vacuum is dead on 20hg. I adjusted the cams to this setting to accommondate the 1g intake manifold. I was able @ 33 psi net 529Hp and 488Tq at about 6500rpm:thumb: I was previously using the hks 264s I was able to put down 504hp and 472Tq with them!

yea you were the guy who sparked my throught process in this matter. Are you going to just try the 272 cams? ide like to see where the bc 280's take you. Another thing im hesitant to try is degreeing the cams. i dont know a starting point to work with. - Great numbers by the way

Well I really like the bc 272s and hate to take them out the car pulls like a beast. But I might like the delta kelford grind better I will be installing them tomorrow and dynoing maybe monday to see what they net me. I am also curious to see what the bc 280s do as well. In my opinion if you go with hks 264 install them straight up using stock cam gears. If you plan on using any 272s start by retarding the intake about 2 degree and advancing the exhaust 2 degree and see where your vacuumm sits. Aim for at least 17hg. I know it sounds unorthodox but it works for me. Just my $.02:cool:

Well what if you dont have cam gears cause you ran out of money but got the kelford 272 grinds from delta. How much is it going to affect me just using my stock cam gears till I can afford adjustibles.

your performance will be affected greatly and your view of the cams will not be positive!

well f-in a that sucks. I guess I am in the market for some cam gears now. I figured I might run into a problem without them but was going to give it a shot. Are you gonna be testing those kelford grinds soon so I can get an idea of how they perform? Been following that thread since it started. Well off to the classifieds.
