Hey guys, I just replace my clutch with an oem one, but it seems as if it is slipping. I took her out for a drive, got up to 80 in 5th and floored, and all of the sudden I felt the motor accelerate but the car kept doing 80!!! I'm really worried about this because I feel I did all that work for nothing. I adjusted the pedal, so that's not it. Obviosly there's no way to get oil on the flywheel/disc since it's modular.

this is of course worthless to say but the oem clutchs are garbage, if you have any mods what so ever i swear theyll slip all day every day even if there brand new,, -- im dealing with mine right now and its got 50K on it so i digress

but anyways, check out your slave cyclinder,, make sure everything is ok there.... also do a boost leak test, you may have moved or knocked one of your IC pipes during that install by accident -- that may account for your acceleration and "clutch slipping" like symptoms

good luck

you didn't obey the break in period did you?
did you put a stock 420a clutch on a boosted motor?
I'm sorry but that is just plain not smart.

You're right man, but I needed something quick and since the car was running on the stock clutch with 130,000 (maybe 1000 of those miles were boosted miles) I assumed the clutch was slipping due to mileage and not boosting, because it held fine for about a month after boosting the engine.

did you have the flywheel surfaced when you installed the new clutch?

Did you do a break-in period for 1 and that clutch will not hold boost at all.

Possible rear main seal or transmission leak onto it?

Too much power is what I think though.

Ahh well I broke it in for about 35 miles or so, and then I floored in 5th, and it slipped once it hit 8psi. If it's not holding power how come the old clutch did so about a month or so. The old clutch was the factory installed one and even with 130,000 it still held 8psi for a month.

You need a good 500 miles of relatively easy driving on a new clutch before you can romp on it.

At only 35 miles, you probably glazed the surface of the disc, basically turning it into garbage. Once a clutch is glazed on the friction surfaces, there is no fix other than putting in another clutch.

Ok so after driving for an additional 100 miles, it's no longer slipping when you let her rip. Can someone explain to me why it was slipping in the beginning?

The surfaces weren't mated correctly, ie no wear or break in.

That's what they were trying to tell you, break-in, just like brake pads, need to wear into what they are touching to get full contact. It's not 'flat' until it wears into the other surface.

ya your lucky its holding -- 500 miles is what you need to break that thing in -- i seriously lay off untill you hit that mark,, i would have thought you glazed it over the first time you romped on it at 35 miles
