I got a cheap spray gun to start learning on some less visible pieces like suspension.

The amount you spend in a gun doesnt really matter. The first few cars I painted were with Harbor Frieght paint guns.

To the OP:

I am knee deep in prepping my GST hardtop for paint. How did you remove the trim around the quarter glasses, the quarter glasses themselves, and the black trim on the top of the door?

I like that color and for 900 bucks with ## own time, I think you got a hell of a deal

i totally agree, my first paint was and 1984 GMC truck, and i used a cheap gun, in which i still have today that i use for etching primer and such. Spray guns aren't complicated and its all about the technique...

an you know already prep work is always the longest part, esp. cause u just want to get color on the car, but that paint can only be as good as the body work and prep work

as for the quarter trim, its all one piece of the glass, the trim doesn't pop off separate. I lucky have a friend who does window replacement, so he cut all of the glass out and is reinstalling for 100 bucks, which is basically cost of supplies.

when you say trim on the top of the door, do u mean the inside or outside trim piece?

So I can't can't blame a poor finish on my gun, just my skills? Aw, that sucks. :p Btw, it's a Husky Pro hvlp gun. My sister bought me it for Xmas.

Black, I'd love to see the car once you get it put together.

Very nice! I love how a polished out paint job looks. I sprayed my Colt five or six years ago, and never got around to sanding and polishing the clear. I meant to polish it one day, but now I'm preparing to paint it again LOL. Maybe this time ha ha. Great job! Only one week of nights and weekends? No way! I need to get a less time consuming career.

oh i didn't say they were early night.. the day my friend and i sprayed clear, we worked all day, 7-4 then taped off, cleared, think we ended up going to bed at 5:30 and back at work at 7... haha

What all of us do for our cars... haha

Thx you by the way..... buffed out paint is always with the extra effort. although i don't have and finger prints left, from sanding..

I just hate having to buff out three times, with three different compounds.... then the worst is when you have to hand polish, in the places where u cant get the buffer.

I was referring to the trim pieces on top of the actual door itself, on the outside of the door frame. Not the drip rails on the body, I already got those off.

Wow. I took the screws out of mine, and could not get them off. I bent those suckers all up trying to get them off. The car had been painted before, maybe some idiot glued them on or somthing. I appreciate the reply, I will look at mine again and see what the problem is.

ah that sucks that y had to bend them all up, i think there like 50 a pop... ouch yeah there not supposed to be glued down, and i can only imagine if they were glued.. that would suck
