okay so im looking at a 93 eagle talon TSI AWD 5 speed. Guy wants 2700 for it. But im looking at trading my cleanly modded 97 civic for it plus he is gonna put up about 1k or so once we iron out the deal. He doesnt seem too DSM savvy and neither am i but ive heard a downpipe, 255lph fuel pump, fuel cut defender, and a catback can bring 300hp out of these things. Yet his has alot more mods and said its at like 200 AWHP, i think hes pretty far off. Anyways here is the list of mods...

full turboback 3" exhaust system
RC 550cc injectors
walbro 190lph fuel pump
manual boost controller
k&n filter
16g turbo
custom front mount intercooler(CXracing)
safc2
greddy turbo timer
2g alloy wheels(black out)
Real VIS carbon fiber hood
short shifter
autometer boost guage
front and rear agx shocks(rears are adjustable)
front and rear strut bars

he said it was tuned but 190lph seems a bit small for 550cc injectors on 15psi. Just wondering if something is wrong with it or if hes off. I plan on adding the fuel cut defender and putting in a 255lph pump along with a good alarm if i end up getting it. But im just wondering what numbers this puppy should be putting down. and if the fuel cut defender and a 255lph pump would gather more power from the beast.

next should it have an upgraded clutch for all those mods and what power can the stock clutch hold?

this will the be second TSI at our house, the first being a 1992.5 (6 bolt motor, 93 front end) AWD 5 speed that we have. The one right now needing a new motor. But its my moms and shes still attached so i need to get a car of my own.

Thanks people!

Im sure the 190lph would be enough for 15 psi on 16g. Its probably not rewired though, thats why he thinks the pump are too small. When you do put a 255 in, make sure you have an AFPR to keep the pump in check and rewire it so it gets constant voltage. Upgraded clutch would be nice since the stock clutch is propably worn out by now and wont handle much power. I think he isnt really far off about the car putting 200 to the wheels, somebody correct me on that one.

That hp numbers was propably on the crank not to the wheels? I didnt even read about that test using some kind of engine management, and it was only at 17 psi plus just dropping in a pump wont give you a 10hp instantly.

wow i just dont see those mods only letting out 225 max to the tires. I know drivetrain loss is the worst with an AWD system.

throw me a bone here people! wiki lists the motor at 190+ at the crank from the factory.

Thats 190 at the crank, propably around 175-180 to the wheels. The guy said its only at 15 psi, stock boost is like 12-14 psi, so getting around 200-225 with the current set-up isnt too bad I think. And like AjWit said it has a lot to do with the tune, and remember every car is different.

On top of all of that Desert Tuner, the car you are looking at only has an upgraded turbo, intercooler, and injectors over the car used in that test. You make it seem like theres so much more, half the things you listed are cosmetic or suspension related. 225 All Wheel HP is a good bit. Sorry if it wasnt what you were hoping for.

With a few more upgrades to your fuel system and the right tuning 300hp is very reachable.

Im running RC 550 injectors with a 255pump safc on eprom ecu big16g 3" full exhaust on 20lbs with 94 octane with my fuel map a little rich and my awd will smoke all 4 tires in 1st no idea what the dyno is. rain is pointless in my car, once i hit 20lbs it will walk sideways on the highway in 3rd.
Given i built the motor and it only has 5k on it, but it only has OEM components and king bottom end bearings.

I think 300hp out of a setup like you have is very possible! Just be careful with tuning and if in doubt then keep it a little rich.

What size tires are you using?? For some reason my holset at 25psi with race gas and a good tune won't break the tires loose in 2nd but it sure will in first...

I ussually dont care about bench racing but OMG are you seriously going to argue horsepower... It might be 200 AWHP...It is basically stock. You can add all the bolt ons you want but intil you turn the boost up and tune for the boost you aren't going to gain a ton of hp.. That set up can go low 13s and isn't that what really counts... You need to stop thinking about a fuel cut defender.. That is for people who don't understand why there car is fuel cutting and can't fix the issue... Hopefully the car you bought doesn't turn into another garage queen because it is broke down from misuse and misunderstanding..

first off the other car is a garage queen because it was sitting for a long time and the timing belt rotted, i checked it before driving and the tension was fine but apparently it was very weak and ultimately snapped and not under heavy load, just driving down a backroad doing 50 in 5th.

and i see what you guys are saying now i just couldnt beleive that intense power took 3 items for 500 bucks and threw down 280ish at the crank (which yes youve said the fuel cut defender is dangerous) but i dunno. I get your guys. And turning up the boost on a good tune and 300 is easy. Probably with a new clutch.

Thanks guys!
