I just Ordered
DSMLink v3 with gm cable
Autometer ultra lite boost and egt gauge
LC-1 innovate with XD 16
3" Gm mas

now i need to pick a Fmic. i really dont want to spend $800+ on one.

what do you guys think i need for a ic. i will be running 93 octain all the time maybe with some e85 mix and have a water injection kit on it already. 15-18 psi of boost. looking for 300-400hp in that area

I have a Punishment FMIC and bang for buck its awesome! You may have to do some fabricating but if you are not afraid of getting your hands dirty this maybe the kit for you.

I have the VRSF FMIC and it's a pretty good setup. Affordable and get's the job done.

Wasn't this car in an ad recently?

i has the vr speed core. its sick 3.5 inches thick.

I have the Punishment Racing FMIC for my 95 GST and the bang for the buck is great! I had some issues with the J-pipe but that's what fabricating is all about! If you know your way around a toolbox and your not scared to get you hands dirty I would do the research on the punishment FMIC and compare it to the others on the market. I have picture up so you can see how it looks with the nose on the car.

I have a punishment fmic. Descent quality for the price. I had an issue with the bov flange leaking because it was warped but had a different flange welded on and all is good now. I also like the fact that this kit comes with a j-pipe.

I will also vouch for the vr speed fmic kit. I helped a friend install hers and it fit great. The only thing I didn't like is the fact that you have to move the puke tank and there was no place else to put it so we ended up wedging it in between the strut mount and the upper intercooler piping. That was on a 2g though, not sure if you have to move it on a 1g

Also if you plan on running a GM Maf in the future I recommend the vr speed kit because there is really no good place to put the gm maf in the PR kit(not saying that it can't be done). I ran into this problem when I got my PR fmic and decided just to sell my gm maf and dsmlink wire and go with a speed density setup instead.

great thanks everyone. i think i will go for a punishment

im sure i will have to remove my ac fan for this install. will a slim line 10" fan fit between the radiator and the lower ic pipe?

hey i got a xs power or ss auto chrome fmic kit the kit is sick the pipes are beauitiful with nice welds all around a good kit

I've only dealt with ETS and Greddy/Apexi FMIC. Both work well, but I prefer ETS short route. I have 3.5" thick core and works well, but running a heavy set up with functional p/s, and a/c it gets pretty hot under hood, but I also don't have shrouds, I will be getting some b4 summer and hopefully that will help with my heat issues.

i just ordered one my self. i figure if its not what i want later down the road i can just get a bigger core and will already have the short route

i know this is a new-b question and kinda hard to answer. BUT what do you guys think i will be getting for hp and track times on a good tune with my setup?

+1 on the VRspeed FMIC. Due to an unfortunate encounter with a downed tree,
I lost my Hahn big FMIC in the collision. I needed a replacement quick, as this is still my DD. Since $800-$1000 wasn't in my budget, it was a toss up between
Punishment Racing and VRspeed. I literally flipped a coin and ordered the FMIC
from VRspeed.

The install went fine, and I'm very happy with the looks of it. What surprised me though, was how much stronger the car felt. Throttle response was crisper, it spooled a little quicker, and definitely pulled harder. To confirm what my butt-dyno was telling me, I took it to English Racing for a pull. This worked out well because I just had it on the dyno doing a MAFT tune two months ago.

To make a long story short, with the Hahn FMIC, the car pulled 385hp/348tq.
With the new VRspeed FMIC, she pulled 413hp/377tq. The only part that was changed was the FMIC. Same boost setting, same dyno, same Lucas. The only difference was the day, but conditions were similar. Back to back pulls would have been ideal, but this wasn't a planned comparo.

I have the vr-speed fmic and love it. I hacked it myself as well for my gm maf setup.
No overheating either.

I bought the punishment racing ic and love it. Just a heads up, but the bolts on the stock j-pipe are too short for the thicker flange on the new j-pipe. If your running the gm maft combo, you'll need to trim the upper ic piping to fit the maf. A little jb weld around the edge of the cut piping works great to seal things up.

Actually i just got my Punishment Kit today. have to say im not impressed for the over all finish of the intercooler it self. and had allot of bent fins. BUT. I did not order this kit for show nor did i expect it to look like a 700$ core. So over all i am very happy.

Stupid me messed up and only ordered 1 2.5 to 3" coupler. so i have to wait tell the other one comes in before i do the install. Great Kit for the money IMO

I just finished putting the punishment kit on my car and Im happy with it overall. Not a show kit but my cars not a show car. The install was pretty involved to, took me and a buddy about 6-7 hours. Thats with a lift, in a heated garage, air tools and torches at our disposal but neither of us had ever done one before + my car has 20+ years of Maine winter road salt rust corrosion on it.

My biggest issues with the kit were:

J pipe didnt have a nipple on it so we had to put one in.

bov flange location and the stock MAS dont like each other, they are very close/tight and required a bit of finagling.

and the upper pipe is very tight with hood when closed.

but like I said its a $369 kit and for the money cant be beat. And like said above where its a short route kit we had to sawzall the sides of the core support to make room for the pipes and delete the power steering cooler. We also had to cut up the bumper support which everyone does and the bumper only required a small trim.

Here is some pics of it all installed on my car.

Yea I know my engine bay needs a good steam clean LOL.

I also forgot to mention a few more install issues we had.

The overflow coolant bottle had to be relocated, I think you have to do this with every kit though. I work at toyota and Im ordering one from a 02-06 camry and it looks like it will fit perfect.

Also the metal stock we used to mount the top mounts is directly in the way of the blinker sockets by the grille. I got some 90 degree angled sockets from work and I think they will work.

I also fixed my hood clearance issue, just needed to take a small piece out of the hood reinforcement x with a dremel.

Like I said above its a great kit for the money just dont think its nuts and bolts and it all will go together perfectly, its an aftermarket kit and a budget one at that so it will require some time, innovation and custom work.

And hopefully Ill have a 2G Mas soon so the big dumpy 1g one will be gone and out of the way.
