So here's the bottom line...I purchased a FWD 95 Eclipse GST project car, everything seemed solid on the mechanical side, so we fixed up some simple problems, then replaced the clutch as we knew there was a tranny issue, which sounded like a clutch problem at the time, but it ended up being that the transmission is bad.

I now found a 95 Eagle Talon TSi AWD roller body (tranny'd) with a dead engine, but my engine in my Eclipse GST is still strong, at only 86k miles. I was wondering, would a straight up engine transfer be a seamless transition? If not, what are the issues at hand?

First time poster, and I did research about engine swaps and it sounds like the only issues are 6 vs 7 bolts between 1G and 2Gs. I want to make sure that there won't be an issue as this was supposed to be on a 5,000 budget, but with a bad transmission, that's making things more difficult.

Thanks in advance for any help

To clarify, I meant swapping the engine from the 95 Eclipse GST TO the 95 Talon TSi. I'm hoping that would work well, as it's going to be rough to maintain my budget by rebuilding the transmission itself.

On another note, can anyone answer if the 93-99 transmissions are all the same? Or just the internal parts are? Jack's Transmissions has a rebuild kit for 90-92 and 93-99...which confused me, as the 93-99 are crossing 1G and 2Gs

you need the awd ecu aswell.

All turbo ecu's are the same, only differences would be among years, as some are wired differently, a FWD ecu is the same a AWD ECU.

The swap is a direct swap, no modifications are necessary, its the same exact car. Just be sure to have the AWD flywheel, the fwd flywheel will not work as the teeth for the starter dont line up.

The transmission are nearly the same internally, but externally the 2gs have different mounts. Just be sure to get one for a AWD.

You'll be fine, the cars are identicle as well as the motor. Make sure the AWD transmission and transfer case are is good order and pick up that AWD flywheel. Now would be a good time to get new motor mounts as well if you were planning on doing that at some point.
