Just got done doin my timing belt and retarded me forgot to tighten theone cam gear bolt. so i started the car and about 10 secs later i hear this CRUNCH!! and the car shut off. got out and saw the gear was off the exhuast cam. So what happen was the gear slide off the cam and then into the intake cam and the grinded together then, so what are the chances that i have a bent valve? buddies bring down a compression tester for me tom but i just wanted to know how likly it is i bent a vlave or 2.

You probably bent all of them to be honest.

cross your fingers and hope for the best, but expect the worst. To be safe I'd inspect the head for possible damage, after all our cylinder heads are aluminum and the cams are not, also check for cam damage because you said they grinded together.

If i was you i would use this as an excuse to start upgrading :thumb: but best of luck

sorry i ment ot sat the cam gears grinded together. im seriously hopoin that theres no damage. LOL start upgrading? the cams are a set of crane 14s and the gears are AEMs. if anything im just goin to port a head, 1mm os valves and some goodies.

Good luck on not bending any valves! Do you plan on modding the car?

If not then search around the classifieds for some cheap cam gears and cams and possibly head if they are bent.

You most likely bent some or all of your valves

Yea, more then likely you bent some valves. You can do a compression test on it first; if you don't feel like removing the head just yet. But I'm going to bet you'll find that the head's going to have to come off. :(

Yup, do a compression test but you will have to setup the timing again which will be time-consuming. With that being said, you have a 99% chance of bent or broken valves so I'd just pull the head and save all the trouble of being disappointed after redoing the timing only to find out the compression test results are displeasing. Sounds like your somewhat new with DSMs so just to let you know, our cars are very sensitive in the initial timing dept. Good luck and more importantly, WELCOME...
