I just installed a reliable properly working tranny . I was so happy until I drove it and notice the high pitch whistling sound coming from my turbo. So i searched and found out my turbo in going, checked for shaft play and it's bad. I can afford to buy another turbo and if I do I want to upgrade it, maybe a 16g or 20g. So here is my question, Is there any Holset turbos that will bolt on the stock manifold? I got a friend with a diesel engine shop, and I could probably get a turbo from him, I just need to know which one. Any input will be greatly appreciate it.:(

If you want a Holset turbo to bolton you got to get a Bullseye Power Mitsubishi housing to go with a HX35 or HX40 turbine otherwise you'll have to switch to a t3, t4 or t5 manifold depending on what the Holset housing it is.

None of the turbos will bolt right up. However, once you put on the BEP .55 ar bolt on housing (DSM flanged) it will bolt up then. You will need to make modifications if running the stock exhaust manifold. A lot of people prefer the FP manifold when using the HX35/40. There is also the T3 housing from BEP as well. Read up on the Holset threads and you'll get all the info you could want.

But what about if I used on of those adapters they sell.
It would work to effectively bolt the turbo to the manifold, but the whole setup would never clear the block.

That turbo is huge though.Oh well I just have to wait and get some money together and do a proper set up instead.

That turbo is huge though.

It's a HX35. All HX35's and HX40's that I've seen have the same compressor cover specs.

...and the problem isn't the compressor cover hitting as much as it's the turbine housing hitting the balance shaft tube on the block. This photo illustrates slightly better:

Is that a holset turbine that you are holding? So basically you have to change the housing in order to work on any t3 manifold? Do you have any pics of your set up? I notice that you have a holset set up.

Not me in the pic- and that is a factory, divided T3-flanged 12cm HX35 housing on that turbo.

You don't have to change the turbine housing, although it's highly recommended for the best fitment. All if this information is available to read within the many pages of Holset information on this site- please don't ask to be spoonfed.

My setup uses a cast stainless ERL manifold and the Bullseye Power T3 turbine housing:

If you use a mitsu flanged BEP housing, it can clear with stock manifold right? I plan on using HAFE manifold for it and it similar.

Same with o2 housing? Is it 2.5in? Always wondered.

Yes, I'd say a Hafe manifold and a 2.5" o2 Housing would work on a HX-40 with a BEP Mitsubishi bolt-on housing, but I'd say it's a pretty close call.

On my hx40 set up I had the bolt-on bep housing with a FP manifold and didn't have any fitment issues. Didn't have to dent the water pipe or anything...

Yup, it also worked with a 2g manifold before I upgraded to a FP Race when I had the HX40 with BEP Mitsubishi bolt-on housing.

So you had a HX35 or HX40 mounted on a 1g with a 2g exhaust manifold and it fit with enough clearance for the block and the waterpipe when using a BEP turbine housing? Good to know i am running a 2g ex. manifold and don't want to swap it out if it will fit.
