Hey all, checked the site and need some help still.
Here's the situation:
My car smokes like crazy, as in James Bond smoke screen :sosad:. The smoke is either blue white or turns gray white on its own (idling, cruising, no throttle changes). What happened was that i ran the car low on oil (bad times, don't ask) and then a whirring noise started the next day after I topped off the oil. The noise would only be at lower rpms then go away. And at first the car mainly smoked when accelerating after shifting then go away. Now it smokes all the time, start up, driving (short test drive), whatever. So I thought it was the turbo, and i'm putting a 14b in so that shouldn't matter anyway. The problem is that it smokes badly at idle so I did a compression test and all the numbers were 185-190, but when I removed the #4 plug that cylinder was like a smoke stack, just gave off a lot of oil smoke for like 5-10 minutes, also had a small amount of oil around the threads and nut of the spark plug but the electrode wasn't fouled. But it held compression, unless i tested wrong of course--car warm, throttle open, fuse out.

So the rings seem to be okay, but i don't have a leak down tester so I'm wondering if its likely to be a valve seal even though the compression was good or whatever else it may be? I.e. warped cylinder head/blown gasket even though there's arp studs that have been correctly retorqued.

Thanks guys, if I've forgotten to add any useful info let me know, I really need to get this solved asap.

If it was a valve most likely yout compression test would have shown it.....i would start with the head gasket.....Drain the oil and check for coolant or vise versa check for oil in the coolant!!

You could check the head gasket. But wouldn't the compression test apply to that. As long as you did everything right when you did do it, that shouldn't be your problem unless something really strange happened.

The gasket might not be blown around the cylinders so that can hide it during a compression test!! But i guess it wouldnt smoke then cause it wouldnt make it to the cylinder.......its gotta be a valve seat on one of the cylinders.

When you ran it low on oil you probably burned up the turbo. When the seals start to leak they will show signs of smoke all of the time. The reason for the oil in cylinder 4 is due to the fact that it is the first one closest to the throttle body so if you are pushing oil into the intake manifold that is where it will leak into. Pull off the lower and upper intercooler piping and check for oil in them. Also just do a basic check and pull of the intake and check the turbo for in and out shaft play.
