Yesterday I removed my VSS who was broke from last clutch change ... Anyway I don't want to buy a new one and I don't want to put the broken one back in.

Is it ok to run the car with no speed sensor ... I will just fab a plug with a groove (with an o-ring) to seal like the speed sensor.

Thanks guys

I have an extra awd sensor laying around. If you want it pay for shipping and its yours.

You sir just got a pm ! :)

Dang, its for an automatic. :ohdamn: I parted out my old gsx and had it lying around. Thought they were the same for auto/manual. It won't hurt anything not having it hooked up though, but I would def block/cover the hole in the tranny and also zip tie the vss connector up so its not dangling. Post an add in the wanted section, chances are someone has one lying around for real cheap.

Nothing will come loose in the tranny if I don't put it back ? Seriously I don't think so since it's just a plastic gear but I don't want to screw something ...

Nothing will come loose in the transmission, but you will also have no usable speedo or rpm gauge on your intstrument cluster.

Buy a new one. They aren't expensive at all.

What did you break on yours? The casing? The snapring that retains the speedo gear? The speedo gear?

As long as you don't lose the bolt that holds the speed sensor in the transmission down the hole, you will be fine with it plugged. I just recommend that you get a new one because you will not know your vehicle speed or rpm, and will be liable for your actions if you are speeding.

The part number is: MD756606 This is the entire speed sensor assembly for 1994-1996 AWD 5-speeds, and costs around $54.00 new from the dealer.

It's the plastic that break ... My last mechanic broke it 2 years ago doing my clutch ... That was the last time I paid some-one to work on my car !

I tought that MD756606 was only for the sensor without the shaft and plastic gear ?
Shaft and gear MD746492 right ?

By the way twick69 my RPM still working, only the speedo is not working ... I was told on dsmtalk that I need this sensor for my 2step with dsm-link ... So plug the hole in the tranny is no more an option.

Why I would not be able to use the 2 step ? I still got my RPM hook up and working ... ?! Man I really want to use the 2 step

Well your talking about the speedo sensor that is in the top of your tranny right? If so, then yes I know your rpm's will work but your speedo will always say 0 even though your cruising down the road at 40 or 60 mph, therefor the ecu will also think that the car is a 0 mph because the speedo will say 0 mph. So if you have your 2step set up, say for 4500rpms for the 1st step and 7000rpms for the 2nd step, then everytime you drive your car you won't be able to go above 4500rpms because that it what your 1st step will be set at. Even though your driving down the road the car will say 0mph and the ecu will think your going 0mph therfor you will only be able to rev (drive) up to your 1st step (4500rpms for this example) in every gear. Hope that makes sense.

The SPEEDO GEAR ONLY is part #: MD746492 for 1994-1996 AWD 5-speed transmissions.

I just give my local dealer a call and you really need to order the 2 parts number to get a brand new speed sensor assembly. The sensor does not come with the shaft and speedo gear ... Find them at JNZ Tuning for 70.42$ for the 2 parts number. Better price than 120.15$ at my local dealer ... JNZ FTW :)

I thought you broke the speedo sensor plastic body? If that is all, just remove the snapring, and pull the speedo gear out, and install it in the replacement speedo sensor plastic body and install the snapring.

The shaft seems to be in good shape but not sure at 100%, but hey for 10.10$ I will order a new one ...

Thanks Twick you're really helpful ! :)
