awd to fwd? :ohdamn:

does it still have all the braces, springs, gastank, and all the necessary stuff for it to be awd? sounds to me someone wanted it to be 5speed but couldn't find an awd tranny. so he just settled for a fwd? idk unless something happened like my old car. rear end collision at about 5k miles (brand new car) so they welded 2 cars together. i found the entire weld marks all the way around the car. carfax?

you'll have all the extra weight from that rearend that now does nothing!
my car is the same way... only im not sure if it was auto or 5speed originally, but it's a 5 speed now

Ummm.....AWD auto to FWD manual.wow....... Yea check everything...You should atleast drive it and see if its shifting right. Also dont be afraid to pedal to the medal it see if it feels right and sound right

He took off most of the AWD parts but still has them, he says he'll give me everything he has for it (Rear axle, Transfer case, and the old auto tranny thats missing a center diff) and he says that i can look through both of his eclipse shells for anything that i want. the car is only 1800 bucks too. The only thing that he said was bad is that the FWD trans grinds 4th and if i buy a new tranny he'll put in in for free.

I would double check the VIN from vfaq to make sure his word is good. Good luck with the purchase.

I would not buy this car! Most people that say they will put something in for free are 1. Desperate to sell 2. wont really do it for free. 3. Lying about the car . Please be very careful dont make the same mistakes i have!

One main thing is that i was wondering what it would need for the conversion back to awd like does the tcase and rear axle work for both manual and auto or would i need to find ones? (it still has the braces and awd gas tank ect.)

awd front axles, front intermediate shaft, manual awd transmission, manual transfercase from the same year. and you should be good to go? someone correct me if i' mworng but i don't htink i am

As well as a rear differential from a manual transmission car(auto differentials are different than manual differetials) rear drive shaft for a manual transmission, and rear axles for a manual transmission.

Well I went to look at it and it was better than I thought. It ran good hit full boost and held it fine, no odd noises and it had a very clean bay. The Bad: No 4th gear, almost all clear coat is gone off entire car, there are at least 5 dents that look like it was hit by a baseball, and it was pretty dirty inside, and the BOV is vented with the stock MAF. What do you guys think?

sounds like the motor is in fair condition but are you wanting it to stay FWD or take it back to AWD. I got my car in a similar fashion where sombody just threw in a Fwd tranny and called it a day untill they blew the motor. If you are wanting an awd you will have to go with either all auto stuff or all 5 speed suff. (tranny, t-case, diff, drivelines)

What color was the car and where was it located at? I went to look at 96 talon TSI today that sounds alot like the car you are talking about.

there are alot of these cars in the area....I would stay away from a completely bastardized car! 1800 is also not a good deal....I bought my 1995 tsi AWD in PERFECT running condition bone stock for 1700 last september! Other then needing some paint on the outside the car ran great. Of course then i totally ripped it all apart and modded it to all hell LOL.......but yea.....keep looking....

here she is the day i picked her up. Bone stock except for a boost guage and injen intake. Old guy bought it from a guy a few years ago and drove it to work all the time because of its "awd snow capability" LOL. $1700 cash buy it now on ebay. Was within an hour drive from my house.
