ok, im looking at a very nice 96 mint red talon awd turbo no dings rust or anything pretty much perfect, power everything, BONE STOCK except for 17 inch rims. owned and driven by an older man. never beaten on. The only 2 problems i have come across are the abs indicator is on, and abs doesnt work. and he wants 5950 for the car. now my two questions are
1. will the abs not working be a problem for normal driving and possibly engine modifications in the future? if so how much to fix (estimated) or can i do without.
and
2. does 5950 sound a bit much. ive checked kbb, edmunds, and NADA and they all give me around 4500 to 5000 at best.
i dont know what to tell him. on the other hand the car is probably one of the nicest ive seen, and drives well!. hope you can help thanks!

I don't know what cars are worth out there but my abs has never worked and have had no problems but i also don't drive it in bad weather.

My 1st 2g Talon had the ABS light on...it was a fuse...replaced it and it really made no difference.

But for a car that high priced it better be working! That is way too much! I find nearly MINT talons out here for 3 grand, and the cleanest talon i found was 4500...the car was immaculate...dont pay that much for a 96...

well whats the milelage on the car, do you have some pics. but does seem a bit pricey.

the miles are 90,303

also. i know for a fact that the abs doesn't work. because he said it was broken.

it looks really clean, but like everyone else i think its to much for 5950 try getting it lower to 4500.

I personally would take 4000 cash and talk him down. Economy is down, and hes expecting to sell the car for that much? At most give him 4500.

Dont get me wrong, that car is clean and has low mileage, but not many people have money like that to just drop on a 13yo car, like i said economy is down! LOL

I payed 4400 for mine and my car had about the same miles and also was perfect.. I personally think i payed to much.

I bought my 95 Tsi awd 2 years ago when the economy was still ok for 5300, BUT..... It has a clean title, carfax clean, full dealership maintance records (it came in a notebook that was organized), spotless inside and out, and to top it off....68k on it!!! What I got, was a 5300 talon that was worth, you guessed it....5300. This car that you are looking at is not worth what he is asking!! I know a guy selling a talon local to me for like 3k that is in the same condition as the one you are looking at (from what the pictures tell me). I would give him 4k max. Do what you want its your money. FWIW, it does look nice though.

true, although this one is as well spotless inside and out. clear title, original paint timing just replaced no major parts have been replaced nor do they need to be, all the papers are there for the work that has been done by a credible mechanic. I mean besides the abs breaks this car is lagit. but i still think its a bit pricy.! i mean 6000! come on! -another note. this guy was an older gentlemen who seemend to be doing well for himself never beet on the car, or drove it in the winter. he seems like he would be firm with the price but I will try and talk him down :thumb:

What do you feel the car is worth to you?

Whatever that amount is, take that with you. You've already said you're not willing to pay full price. So try to talk him down to 500 or more below the amount you took with you in the hopes that he'll come down to the price that you think it's worth.

Don't let us decide how much you will pay for a car. If you like it and it's in a price range that you like. Buy it...

If he won't come down to the amount of cash you took with you. Turn around and leave thanking him for his time. Offer him your phone number in case he wants to reconsider. Knowing that there is not a huge market for DSMs he'll probably call you back within a few weeks maybe days. Shit maybe even hours.

I sold a set of wheels one time. I put them on craigslist for $700 hoping to get $500. Dude rolls along and offers me 400, I counter with 600, he comes back with 500 and I told him $550 he could have them today!! He said, "No Thanks" and left. 10 minutes later he called me back telling me he was turning around to come pick up the wheels... LOL ROFL Gotcha!!

that's a pretty good story. and yes i do have a set amount i want to pay. i was just looking on here to see some prices that others would pay for it. to compare ya know? i offered him 5000 and he said he was gonna have to think about it. i don't think he will get anywhere near what hes asking so hopefully he will call me back within the next few days. it doesn't help that i completely suck at trying to talk ppl down... I will keep you all posted the next few days. :thumb:

I found my 95 TSi AWD with 87k miles on it and in similar condition. It was also owned by and older man who was the original owner who also never modified it. He was asking $5,800, but I got it for $4,800. I told myself I wouldn't pay more then 5 grand for it. The only reason I was even willing to pay that much was because I had been looking for years to find an awd, 2g DSM that clean. When all is said and done it is about how much it's worth to you. I personally would settle for the same as I did with mine, anything less then $5,000. It may not technically be worth it, but I wish you the best of luck trying to find a lot of awd DSM's that clean and with that few miles for less. It's possible, but I know I had waited far too long trying to find one.

whats up Danny LOL. Getting a TSI AWD, good man LOL

haha whats up dion! (sorry if i spelled your name wrong) yea finally for 5 grand. just gotta figure out when i'm going to pick it up. I will probably store it for the winter and then drive it after i sell my eclipse gs. how is evan's car treating you?
ps: you should come over and check out my 4g short block i'm building sometime.

So your building a 4g, nice. I think dahlgren was telling me about that a few months back at the drags. ya ill have to check it out
