Brian's getting it. :) Looks like Chris got it on this page.

I'll shoot some L+RAW to see if the displayed resolution in Winblows changes, but unless your calendar is the size of a queen bed, the 72dpi at 48xxx2xxx will properly scale to the 200+ at normal printing sizes.

This made for a good discussion, anyway.
Kris, you're saying that you can take a photo at low resolution (72 ppi) and change the resolution value in a photo editing program to a higher resolution value (200 ppi) and it will look the same when printed? I've tried that before and it does not work. If the photo was taken at low resolution, the program has to add pixels and guess how the new pixels will be added, which is what causes the image to be less sharp/low quality when it's printed - this is touched on in the article I linked to. If the photo is taken at a low resolution value, it simply won't print out well no matter what the dimensions are, and the article I linked to explains why.

Have you tested this with something other than a home printer? Have you taken something to a printing shop? The only reason I ask is because I did something like this a few years back with a past DSM calendar and it was noticeable.

A resize needs to accompany the DPI "change". I have a shot in 16x20 on Fuji paper that was 34xx by 24xx (or similar...Rebel XT max resolution) that is flawless, but shows in Windows as 72x72 dpi. ;)

My 15MP T1i has twice that resolution but we're haggling over a setting that is essentially meaningless:

Think of it as a marketing gimmick. My 3000x4000 pic on a Canon is the same as a 3000x4000 on a Nikon, but their EXIF is embedded with a higher dpi number. ;) Our 8x10 prints will look the same.

I have a Canon S5 that I have taken all my pictures with, and the DPI says its only 180. But the pictures are 3264x2448 and very clean taken with a tripod. Would this be ok?

Also, I looked back at the pictures that I took with my parents XTI, and the DPI says its only 72? I would imagine that the XTI pictures would be more than fine considering it is a $1k+ setup.

Edit: I should have read the link before I posted. But I still want to make sure that my Canon S5 photos will be sufficient.

The S5 photos should be fine.

Is there anyway for those who have sent in pictures to get some sort of conformation?

Neither Winrar or Winzip are working on my Computer (Vista?) My yahoo size limit is 25megs in one email, you probably don't want your inbox filled so much, so what else can i use to compress them. The email i've constructed sits at 17.6 megs. Any suggestions?

Can I nominate someone? VERY good photos (and an impressive rig!)

I saw those pics yesterday and almost busted one open on all of them! Whoever took those is AMAZING! I'm JUST submitting my pics now. I dont know CRAP about photography so a friend took em for me and I gave him all the info he needed for them. so I just attatched them to ymail and sent them. Anybody tell me if they're good enough?

I really want to submit my pictures, sorry for being a noob at photo programs, can somebody help me out?

I'll hopefully be able to detail the car and go out and take some photo's. I've been real busy with family stuff, school and switching jobs. Hopefully I'll be a good contender! Lots of nice cars out there...

not sure if the car will be big enough for the pictures, but 3 on the way from this weekends track event. All requirements met (I think) 230dpi and 2856 x 2142

I may end up resubmitting if that's ok, waiting to see some pictures a buddy took, but these were taken with my camera

Just sent one of mine in, 3008x2000 pixels and 300dpi. I see we can send up to 3 photos. Is it OK to send them in spurts? I might go to a different spot this week and take some more.

I asked this in the "Calendar thread" awhile back, but never got an answer. Can a "photoshopped" image be used for a calendar image. Tomorrow is the deadline, and I may enter, for the heck of it, but would like to know before hand. Thank you.
