I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

It's a "lighter" vehicle with all wheel drive it should be okay, I can't image it driving like a truck through 6 inches of snow, but I am not sure.

We can't make the decision for you. If you like it and take the advise on here, and think its a good deal, then get it.

that car needs a fuel pump and possibly an afpr pending on your power goals. this is a DSM, not a honda. completely different worlds.

also, check the belts, compression, fluids, oil pressure, etc etc.

take the oil cap off and shine a light on the cams and see how worn they look.

i dont know WTF you friend is talking about 'good for 20psi,' do not try to go that high on a stock fuel pump unless you want to blow your shit up.

+2 on the log sheet.. if he claims it he shouldn't mind showing you.

fpr, fuel pump are a must, and i would also look to put the heat shield back on to keep temps down..

other then that it looks like a nice tsi. why do you wanna trade your built crx???

Oh another thing is that to me it looks internally gated not externally gated. Also no fuel pump, or afpr, and there is no dipstick. Give it a good inspection make sure you check everything over. Oh and one more thing just becareful about spelling.

whoops sorry didnt see this part "no he includes the external wastegate o2 housing etc that i can install my self or he said he can do it,"

This has already been covered previously, but yes to reiterate it, it is important, that is why we are all telling you about the fuel pump and fpr.

One thing I can tell you for sure-it looks like you have at least one broken exhaust manifold bolt broken off inside the head. It won't affect performance, but it's a pain to get out (or so I hear).

Here's a couple things to do before buying:
-stop focusing on Horsepower numbers and focus on the general health of the car. 300HP is great, but not if it immediately breaks down.
-Compression Test: you need to know what kind of shape the motor's in and a compression test can certainly help tell you.
-familiarize (i.e., search forum) yourself with what spark plug discoloration looks like for a turbo car, and then look at his plugs. Are they fouled? White? Black, you get it...
-Start the car and let it run. Does it overheat? Rattle, tick or knock?
-Drive it, any shudders or odd noises? Make sure the radio is off.
Get a carfax for sure!
-Look under the rear of the car and confirm that there is a rear differential=AWD
The point is, the guy definitely has got some money in the car and I can promise you that he has driven that thing like he stole it too! Good Luck!

he said he includes new arp one {:

OH if i go external wastegate,

i have to tke turbo off and weld flapper shut ? or take flapper out ? and do what else ?

also he said stud is just short, and has long arp one.

Not if you keep that same manifold. You have to take the exhaust housing off and take the flaper OUT and plug the hole that the wastegate arm connected to the flapper. This will allow you to run your 02 housing with the gate mounted to that.

ok, well if i install the 660 injectors he is includign and the external dump, and i get 225 walbro fuel pump and regulator uthink i can push more ?

im not familier to dsm how much cna i push on that setup ?

Yes, his current setup is lacking the fuel mods of a 300hp setup so with bigger injectors/fuel pump and a better tune with more boost you can easily push out 300hp, evo 3 turbo's are easily capable of 350whp w/ all the supporting mods of course... Definately do want to upgrade the clutch to at least a 2100 if your really looking to be pushing that much power... goodluck to you and try doing some research on this forum... Almost any question you have has been asked before so spend time on the site and enjoy your stay..!!!

I won't stress enough about the DSMlink, make sure it's LEGIT: cables, adapter, username, password, then get a manual on how to run it with your new upgrades, as it will have to be re-tuned. It's a hell of a learning curve, but make sure you take advantage and get to know what the "link" can do for you. And make sure you know what you are doing with it before you go fiddling around with it. I'm not one to preach, but DSMlink will be the key to the whole car, and since you are new at it, you should spend every extra moment you can spare to learn about it, and how to use it. It will be the difference in 250 hp or 350 hp...... Safe Horsepower. On a side note: I think you'll be a proven member here in a day or two because of this thread alone :) But make sure you do your homework, and you will love your DSM :thumb: and the "link".

ok thanks very much.

i want to be good member on here as im just getting into dsm as stated our shop is honda/mazda and small jobs on others.

but this would be my little project. i asked most questions with a 80% response in my mind, just wanted to be sure LOL, thanks for all your help

HE SAID" No all you have 2 do it take picture of chip and email it 2 them and they give you account but cords and software yes

is this possible ?

Yes, that is correct, you can do that. All they need it the DSMlink chip I.D., no picture necessary. Here's the direct quote:

"The following is provided as a resource to use while collecting information to register a copy of DSMLink. We will need to know the following:

DSMLink chip ID
New owner's full name
New owner's e-mail address
Requested user ID for the forums

The DSMLink chip ID is a four-digit number printed after the word DSMLink on the EPROM chip inside the ECU. It's also printed on the outside of the black protective box the package originally shipped in."

 Why would he want to trade? Something must be wrong. I mean that's a nice crx and all but the 2g is clearly worth more. Are you putting up some cash aswell? Is he looking to go auto xing or something? Make sure the timing belt was done recently. Physically remove the upper timing cover and inspect the belts condition. 300whp should be no problem with a 190lph fuel pump and a clutch with those injectors installed.

well my crx has over 10k into it i can sell my crx for 5k today and he can sell him for what ? 4.5-5 ??

value wise mine is more HE IS throwing in lots of parts extra turbo's,exhaust, bumpers, injectors, waste gate external+dump, +200$

and in return he gets my car+ about 800$ value of extra parts

and yes i will do that, he said he was under car last night 2 hours and not a dime of dis coloration or rust , and oil change he did and oil is perfect no flakes,

im scared that its a STOCK CLUTCH ! i feel it will go out ANYTIME !! what u guys think ?

also, taking turbo of porting and installing external setup is it hard ? do i hae to un hook all lines ? Stupid question but im gettign to how much space is there LOL, thanks for all your help !

yeah that is one major downside to that car is the fact that its on the stock clutch on a evo3 16g... if you do intend on making the deal, definately do consider about $500-$1000 on a clutch/flywheel job depending on if you can install it yourself.... just an fyi, my clutch started to slip when i was on the t-25 w/ basic bolt ons but ive since then upgraded....

well, my opinion is that if you buy this car, you will have to be able to read the haynes or chilton manual on these cars. And by your spelling, i would suggest first taking a spelling 101 class. Then you will be able to go from there
edit, i should of read the post right before me. LOL
