I'm completly new at DSM's and what not and I was just wondering if I don't get something like DSMLink to tune my car can I just take it to a dyno and get it tuned there? Do they do the same thing? Sorry if i sound stupid LOL

The factory ecm is set up for factory parameters. It can not be adjusted. There is a number of tuning options out there for dsms. You have to have one and keep it. You can have a shop dyno tune it, but you still have to have dsmlink, or a super afc, or something to tune with and it has to stay in the car. You can't just go to a shop and have 'em tune it like it is.

Oh okay so i went to that DS-MAP site and it seems pretty cool. So is the program on there free? Then i just have to make sure i have a socketed EPROM-ECU, a logger, and a cable that connects my logger to my car?

Jackal is really cool, I plan on running it once I move to bigger setup. You'll also need an ostrich unit, MAP and an IAT sensor.

Hmmm I notice a lot of people use SAFC. Does this just let you adjust fuel levels? Where could I get one of those and what else would I need to go along with it. I think this would be a good way to start tuning.

By the time you spend money on everything you need to properly tune with a safc, you could buy ecmlink, and ecmlink is coming out with a lite version. Ecmlink can also convert your current ecm to eprom for less money, you can control timing, get rid of knock, control fuel, antilag. Its just better all the way around. The safc is a shrewd tunning device, that can't tune timing, thus making it very hard to get rid of harmful knock. Use the search function on this site and read all the articles you can before you make a choice on something you don't need or will regret later. If you stlill want a safc, they can be had on the classifieds or ebay.

I like dsmlink. You can make all adjustments while driving unlike some of the burning chip options. For the price you cant beat the free programs though.

Ohh and my ecu cost $75 to convert when buying ecmlink.

Because there's more to buying an afc to properly tune with it ?? Wow :notgood: 200$ != link. Especially if the OP cannot get an eeprom ecu.. bout the same price as an eeprom ecu .. to convert it lawl.

Very few people can tune with just a super afc, you should always use a datalogger, so around $300.00 for datalogging and a super afc. $600 for ecmlink if you already have a eprom, about $675.00 total if you don't. I'd choose ecmlink everytime, plus you can pull more power out of ecmlink and will never outgrow it.

You have a couple options to choose from such as an SAFC which is not too bad as long as you are not planning on any big power anytime soon. You are limited to just fuel control and have no way to adjust timing. You could also go with the SAFC/chip combo where you can get a keydiver chip for like $140 for your set-up and use the SAFC for fine tuning. now if money is not an issue you could always go dsmlink which gives you a lot more control of your car. Another popular option is jackal which is free but you have to buy a MAP sensor, IAT sensor, and an ostrch.

I would get ecmlink, it is around $600 but you can do so much with it. Im only 18 with no tunning experience but ecmlink is such a user frienly tunning system.

I've been looking at the 'ecm/dsmap' issues and it seems like they are now all old issues, the bitching back and forth about sliders and piggyback type systems. Looks like they are even now with VE and SD, right?
