I put everything back together on my 6-bolt 1g, and when it was time to start the starter wouldn't crank. So i put 12-volts to the starter directly from the battery to get it to crank so the starter was working. After it built fuel pressure and fired up, it INSTANTLY bounces off the rev limit for 16 whole seconds, right after it started i disconnected the battery but it kept going and going, flames were flying out the exhaust.

My diagnosis was that the TPS was not installed correctly so the ECU thought the throttle plate was wide open, but it was closed, so it was completely running rich nothing but fuel. I have this whole scary event on film too! Please help me out guys

I can't =/ It's on my jvc camera, and without the firewire hardware i can't upload it to my laptop. So unless you live near Olympia washington you probably will never see it. Have you had this problem before? I'm waiting till tomorrow for my aldl cable to come in so i can view the throttle position sensor voltage on the laptop using Tuner Pro. If it's not the TPS then i'm pretty sure i'm screwed. I have a new MAF on and everything.

Mods are:

NGK standard gap plugs
NGK wires
Dejon intake w/k&n filter
Huge fmic with hard pipes
Greddy BOV
Completely removed emmisions systems(EGR,EVAP,A/C,and the solonoids that control them)
Ebay tubular header
Massive o2 housing-3" megan downpipe-3" CXracing catback(fwd)
Greddy turbo timer

I think theres a few others, I'm at work so I'm not by my car right now.

And the starter problem is a first for the car, I tested for voltage at the "S" prong on the starter solonoid. So to start the car i put 12 volts to it while turning the key. From there it started and flew to redline....WTF is wrong!?

Are you sure you put the egr blockoff back on? Did you do a fiav block off? Do anything with the isc? If all of that looks good, physically and visually check the throttle plate and take the cable off while your at it... SOMEONE IN WASHINGTON PLEASE GO AND POST THIS VIDEO FOR HIM!!! I can imagine the terror. It would almost be as good as the 2g vs. m3 vid "m3's suck"

yes, i have the egr block off plate on and torqued..The isc is on, and the throttle plate looks fine. Right now what my problem is, i got my aldl cable in from ecmtuning and i'm trying to use it with tunerpro, and it's not seeing my car! so I can't even tell if the TPS is reading WOT or not. is it possible i installed the TPS on wrong? I don't understand how it went full throttle either with the plate closed.... Keep in mind there were 4 foot flames flying out the exhaust which means maddddd fuel. If you can give me advice on how to pull up codes on my laptop without buying a palm pilot or dsmlink, PLEASE help me!!

Car won't redline if the throttle plate is closed and tps reads 100%.
There isn't enough air, it will stumble and stall from being to rich.

I had a broken wire in my ecu harness that made my tps read 100%, I couldn't keep the car running.

You have something else going on, you sure your throttle plate isn't stuck open?

my old honda did that and i replace the iacv...that didnt do it then i did the intake manifold gasket and it fixed it...just throwing some stuff out there...doubt it helped you though

Man, I want to see that video, I'd say send me the video as long as its on DV and I'll post it. Other than what's been already covered I can't think of anything.

Edit: A boost leak test might tell you something though.

Sounds like the gasket between the elbow and TB, or the TB to intake manifold got stuck on the flapper inside of the TB and is keeping it open. In fact I'd put money on it. Pull that stuff off and check.

Yeah thanks guys, I still haven't messed with anything till I get what the computer is receiving from the tps..If it reads 0% then I'll know it's the ISC or something. But seriously, the video is horrific. If anyone wants to come to oly and watch it, you'll get a shiver then a good laugh out of the respect i gained for it hah. Please keep posting what you think this is though

+1 for the throttle stuck open, otherwise you have a major leak somewhere. I dought the EGR port or the ICS would flow enough air to cause it to hit redline, you could probably leave both off completely and it still wouldn't hit red line (3500 - 4000 rpm idle maybe). Is the intake manifold tightened all the way down???????

I was having a similiar issue. What was wrong with mine was my throttle cable was snagged on a different line causing it to open the throttle. Check the cable

Boost leak test!!!!! Like ceddy said even if your tps was reading 100% it will not make it redline. Just unplug it if that will convince you.

+1. Also, check the two nuts (LOL) that hold the cable onto the box looking thing (sorry, can't think of what it's called). If they aren't adjusted correctly (or if the inner nut is loose) it'll cause problems. My 1G had this problem. I had high idle (like 2k-3k, at one point 4k) and I had found that the inner nut had completely come off, sliding down the cable. After proper adjustment of the screw and making sure it was extra tight (as mine kept backing), I haven't had a problem. Also check your BISS and make sure your TPS is good.

+1 on BLT as well.

ok ive been on it hours today, unplugged the tps, took the throttle cable off completely, no boost leaks, and still slamms redline when i start it. but now i can shut it off immidiatly after it starts. so please give me some other answers :/ tomorrow i'm taking the throttle body off completely and inspecting it, when i put it back together and nothing changes i'm gunna trash this car and beg my mom for a 300zx or some shit. I'm tired of my car's mind of it's own!

Did you check the throttle nuts in that box like I mentioned? Hope you resolve this issue, don't want to see a DSMer give up on his DSM.

Yes the BISS blew off the first time i started it, so i replaced it today but nothing changed, still hits redline. Tomorrow after school I'll check out the stupid throttle plate =/ Thanks for at least keeping up with my thread guys..If anyone can get me the number to Arron at English racing or maybe Lucas i'd be stoked. I really need to just talk to a pro at diagnostics. None of the online free data logging software is working with my aldl ecm tuning usb cable. So I can't view what the computer is seeing. Please give me some suggestions!! UGH!:banghead:

Uhh? what two nuts? The two small bolts that hold the cable on the intake manifold?

Not the intake mani or tb. Its on the opposite side (sorry for lack of photos). If you follow it from the tb, you'll run into a box looking thing (I think you're ABS module, I have a '90, so mine is different (no ABS).) Your cruise control cable runs here too, but its not that, its the actual throttle cable. The 2 nuts keep the cable from moving too far and from falling.

When you put the new BISS in, did you properly adjust it?
