How much doess a stock crank pullley cost and what should that add to the cost of a T-belt job when done at the same time? My crankshaft pulley is rattling around and I can pull it towatds me easily indicating the seal is bad. I guess they re[place the gasket only and not the pulley itself right? Could the bad seal be caused by crankshaft bearings going out or other internal engine problems? The stock 4g63 n/t motor has 175,000mi

Change it fast. Mine went at 120K and it almost cost me the motor. About 1 week after having the timing belt done it went and the alternator belt started working into the timing case. The dealer installed an new OEM one for $130

OK but I guess the pulley itself doesn't need replacing but rather just the seal. I have 2 dsm shops near me so I guess best bet is go to one of them but a T-belt job w/ waterpump + crankshaft pulley seal isn't going to be too cheap :(

I also need to replace worn out valve stem seals asap and a set of them at autozone costs $34 which is cheap enough but what do you guys thinks a fair price foe a dsm shop to change them is? I don't have that special tool and never changed them otherwise I'd think about doing it myself.

The other thing is this is on a '92 Eclipse GS a/t with 176,000 mi and don't know if I should spend that much money fixing this stuff BUT the crank pulley seal + valve stem seals are an urgent necessity to keep the car going. Should I think about not doing the T-belt + watepump since t-belt appears good or what

It looks like I need a new crankshaft pulley and wondering what to look for when buying a used one so I can bring it to a shop and not have any problems with them saying the used one is bad etc. Since it's not taken off yet all we know for sure is it's rattling and could see + feel that it's bad. How much is a fair price for a used pulley and is it a straight forward job in that the pulley goes bad and you replace it with no surprises like finding other things wrong under there

Btw I think the guy said it's a 2 hr job (book time)

Well the car is close to 18 yrs old with 176,000 mi and is a N/T so looking to spend as little as possible. Is it hard to find a GOOD USED crank pulley that'll last a few yrs?? In 12-1/2 yrs with 2 dsm's this is the 1st one I've had a problem with.

In fact I went to 2 dsm shops today and both thought getting a used pulley was a good idea given the car's age, mileage, etc

Change it fast. Mine went at 120K and it almost cost me the motor. About 1 week after having the timing belt done it went and the alternator belt started working into the timing case. The dealer installed an new OEM one for $130

The dealer installed oem for $130  Did that include part, labor, + tax? Because I'm getting quoted $200 just for labor :confused:

Did you go in just for that or was it only $130 because they were already working on your car?

Because I was thinking about going to a DSM shop because dealers make my stomach turn and joe mechanic always seems to not know anything about dsm's and screws up more than he fixes :(
