I have searched and read over numerous no-start/bad ecu threads and still havn't got an answer. So heres my problem.....I had a brain fart and pulled the positive battery terminal while the engine was running to test the alternator, dumb i know, but i have done this numerous times on carburated vehicles with no problem. When i Pulled the Positive Battery Terminal my windshield wipers/Cooling Fans both came on and the engine rpms dropped. I blipped the throttle with my hand under the hood to keep it running as the engine speed increased so did the fan/wiper speed, i then quickly shut off the car.

Now i have a few problems. 1. The car will not start, i am not getting power to my ECU/S-AFC. 2.My windshield wipers are always on unless i pull the fuse (probably due to the voltage spike welding the points inside together) 3. Neither My HVAC Fan or Radio are getting power now.

Engine will still crank over but will not start. With Key in the Acc/On position power windows, Sunroof still work. Headlights/parklights, signal and brake lights still work.

I just found how to check the MFI Relay and i will be doing this tomorrow. Would a bad ecu or MFI Relay make the radio/HVAC have no power, and if not what should i look for to address these problems....Also i have checked, double checked and triple checked every fuse under the dash and under the hood....

ive inspected all the wiring so i dont think its the wiring harness (hope not anyways) but im still not sure about the ecu...im going to check the mfi relay tomorrow and also check the 12V input from the relay into the ecu with a voltmeter.

Alternator over charging.. Check the fuses under the hood.

how high a voltage spike are we talking? certainly sounds like you fried something bad-can you open the ecu and see any visable damage? black marks, plasticy smell?

ok im not sure how bad of a voltage spike were talking, bad enough to weld the points shut on the windshield wiper motor. I have double and triple checked all fuses in the cabin and under the hood. The mfi relay is testing good, but i am not showing power coming in to the ECU, i will pull the ECU as soon as i get a chance and check for burnt components.

98Talon, any word on your issue? I had some sort of overcharge on my GSX that fried my redtop and my wipers are stuck on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
