Depends on whether you think cheating smog is worth a misdemeanor on your record.

Its not a misdemeanor. Its an infraction...
If you go the state ref, everything in the engine bay has to be stock, you can keep your fmic, no aftermarket bov. If you have that old school 18g turbo, I believe it is carb from Greddy. You can run catback I believe also, but cat has to be stock.
Well thats because you have a GVR4, they really aren't eye catching to the general public, no offense..
Still the ultimate sleeper in my book, 4g63, awd, 4ws, 4dr, a damn shitsubishi, what more heh
I got pulled over for a dumb open air filter element with no carb sticker. I had to go see the state referee. My old car has super high miles and worn valve seals/guides, so it burned oil. I put in a new cat, replace plugs, wires, oil, put everything to stock, but still failed smog.I'm just curious, how many of you opted to just pay the hefty bail fine and skip the ref? I didn't see that option for me in alameda county but I saw a friends courtesy notice from Santa Clara county givng the option. I know taking time off work and returning your car to stock is time consuming and sometimes costly... it was for me the second time I had to go...

Time ran out and I just paid around 400 bucks to avoid and close up everything. Total bullshit...
wow that sucks... do you know if the bail forfeiture fine is doubled everytime you get sent to the ref? I've heard rumors but I'm not sure.. I recall my time at the ref, buying stock parts and taking time off from work to go to court all costed me close to 400-500... my bail forfeiture fine was 619.00.. sometime I wonder if it's just worth it to pay and not have to deal with the hassle...
I thought "Ref" was cancelled due to not enough funding at some point..
are they back now?
