I lowered my 1996 awd. I used Tokico illuminas and spring combo. Its around a 1.75 drop all the way around. I did the DIY camber kit in the rear. I used four washers on each bolt and still had to much negative camber an it wore away a good bit of the tires on the inside and you could still see the wheels bowed in. So today i went and got thicker washers and put five on. It looks like it helped more but i still need to get it up on an alignment machine. I just installed my ignalls front camber bolts for the upper control arm. I ordered 1.25 to 3 degrees of adjustment because my camber was about 2.0- all the way around. Now my upper control arms are pretty much riding on the fenders making this thing bounce and feel like a lowered civic.

Did you grab new shocks? Or just the springs?

Whoops just re-read it, sorry

The shocks could be bad, were they used?

If your car is hopping like peter cotton tail then it might be the shocks and struts. If you push down on the fender or trunk and the car bounces like a ball (It should only bounce once) then you need shocks or struts.

READ HIS POST CAREFULLY! His dampers and springs are brand new! I had exactly the same problem when I installed Tokico's handling (spring/shock) kit because the springs are way to soft for how much they lower the car. That's why that setup is so cheap right now. The shocks also arent shortened enough and you end up outside their optimal bump/rebound valving. Passengers and weight in the car will only exacerbate the problem.

Keep the shocks their good but install Eibach Pro-Kit springs, or Ground Control Coilovers to solve your problem. Also RRE's shock mounts help a little because they add about an inch to the bump travel. Or just live with it as is.

I have the same Tokico kit and set up. If you stay with it, I recommend buying 2 additional bump stops for the front axles. Cut each one in half and use the larger top portion and ADD it on top of the stock bump stop for added protection. With the front upper bolts, you will smack the top of the fender well when you bottom out. This will give about a half inch of added protection and should prevent this annoying occurrence.

Adding bumpstops is an age old trick that is more like a band-aid for poor engineering. Its actually a good idea if you dont have the means to correct the issue, but as a long term solution it leaves much to be desired.
