Just so I'm clear dsm-onster are you favoring the twin or single disk clutches? The car will be driven on the streets and I don't want to have to dump the clutch off the line. I still have stock driveline  and I really don't want to have to but driveshafts and axels, I know eventually I'll need it but for now I just want to drive the car. Planning on launching around 5-6k and shifting about 75-8k. I've heard yes and no as to whether or not a ACT 2600 with a 6 puck will hold. How about a street disk? The new unsprung street disk? If I were to run a single disk what is my best option? I don't want a 4 puck, I know this for sure. Thanks for all your comments, becoming very helpful.

There is this guy here Diambo 4 life, he runs ACT 2600 with unsprung 6 puck, I think. he is running mid 10's at around mid 600's WHP. On any of ACT set ups, you increase TQ holding capacity, when putting cerametallic disc/4-6 puck/ sprung, or unsprung/. And NOW I think unsprung is better/ lighter and no springs to brake. With my 6 puck sprung it feels like street disk, but HOLDS and doesn't slip.

^^^ I was thinking of the same guy. He's on the link forums and he mentiones really liking his setup.

I have a sprung hub 6puck clutchnet clutch. I wouldn't hesitate running 600whp through it. I think it's beeter on your drivetrain to slip when you launch and you can yield better 60fts when you use the slip in the right way once you know your car and how she likes the 60ft. For that reason I like the single puck disks. 4 puck solid is what Jack recommends. I don't have any experience with the other sprung hub 6 puck disks. But I know this clutchnet 6puck sprung hub has done we well throuh he!! and back and feels like a street disk when I need it to.

I can slip my clutch no problem on street tires with a twin. However I am AWD it's a completely different beast to launch with a twin than a fwd car. I can understand why it's much harder to slip a twin on a fwd car rather than an awd.

If the op is awd that it's probably better if the opinions he get come from guys with awd setups and experience.

I can say from my awd experience that daily driving, drag racing on slicks, street tires, slipping the clutch on any tire, wot shifting and anything else you can throw at it a twin out performs a single disc clutch.

Before my qm twin I ran an act xtreme duty pp and a 6 puck sprung, so I have extepience with both.

No, sorry for the confusion. I was simply relaying what Jack said. He runs an AWD. He's the one saying these clutches don't like slipping. He mentioned that one guy burned his clutch up after 3-4 runs at the track trying to slip it right for a good time.

Glad to see that you're works fine after slipping.

I can't imagine I would need to modulate the clutch as much as you fwd guys, and to be honest if I had to I don't think I could with the twin, so in that instance the single plate would be better. However for the very little amount that I slip the clutch on street tires I have no problem doing it with the twin.

That isn't really the point of this topic though, since the op states he can't afford a twin. I'd go with the act 2900 and 6 puck unsprung pp. Just make sure you have all your alignment dowels between trans/engine, I'd even recomend replacing the anyways.

Might have disengagement issues that will need to be worked out though if you go with a 2900. A 2600 is bad enough as it is for a lot of us 1g guys to get to engage/disengage properly.

Also launching will take out any clutch faster, and make you need even more clamping force than the actual power your putting down.

Coming off a Quartermaster Twin Disc

If I could do it again it'd be a new style ACT 2900 and some type of 6 puck unsprung disc.

I daily drive my car, and the harmonics from doing so will crack the pucks. And supposedly the discs will burn up from slipping it, but I had 15k+ and no slipping.
