So I am needing a tranny rebuild badly. My car sounds like a train under any engine braking.

I have heard good things about them but I am from the Illinois area (actually lived 5 minutes from the DSM factory), and normally would go to AMS. I looked online and their base price is about 900 bucks.

Has anyone had a rebuild done by them?

I also live in Salem Oregon so its a bit of a drive if there is something closer.

Oh if you are wondering its a 1990 TSI AWD.

Any tranny combo that the big shops like Shep, Jack's, TRE, or Dogbox can do, Lucas and his crew can do also. There truely is no reason to go anywhere else when they can do it just as well as anyone and is local to you. You want to shift at 10k RPMs? They can do that! You just want a stock replacement? They can do that too!

Plus, Lucas and his crew are some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. They will be up front and totally honest with you. If they don't like something, they are going to say so and offer an alternate solution.

English Racing :thumb:

Very much this!!

Plus, their kind of the place to go, in Washington, or really, the west coast, with any thing DSM/EVO related.

You're actually rather luck you're so close to them. :D

I actually had my tranny rebuilt and had a 4 spider put in by lucas last year and it was probably one of the best experiences I have ever had dealing with a shop. there was a couple problems with my tranny like a broken bell housing and such but they communicated with me copletely and didn't pull any punches or beat around the bush with me. they answered every question I could come up with completely and honestly as well as when the car was done they let me pick it up on a saturday. as for how reliable it is I have got almost 14k miles on it since febuary as I pizza drive my car I launch it from 5.5k rpm launch controll at least 2 or 3 times a week and often more than that. it still shift like butter and makes no noise and gives me all the traction I could want. I will not go anyplace else for work on my car after my experience with them.

I just had Lucas put together a trans for me for the Woodburn BOTI and it shifts perfect. I will be shaking the car down this sat. the 12th and will see how it holds up to some NLTS and big boost. Lucas is a great guy he worked with me on my deadline and made it happen. He also arranged a sat. pickup for me which he didnt have to do. Props:thumb:

I haven't had a chance to have anything done by them, cause I live in NY, but I talked to Lucas several time on the phone and one time in person/ at event @ Englishtown/, regarding my tune on my AEM and I could tell you he is one of the nicest and knowledgable guys around.

Wow, I really didn't expect to get this many replies.

Thanks guys, I'll go with them then.

I am new to the DSM side since I just bought mine. I have know Lucas, Midget, and Billy for a while now and that would be the only place I would ever go. They really know their sh*t...My brother is an EVO owner and all his stuff is done there as well...:thumb:

hey everyone. so i've seen and read some good things about English Racing. I need to have my car tuned and everyone so far has suggested I go there. They quoted me a base price of about $200 to have it tuned and its about a 6 hr drive from where I live. Would it be worth it given the cost of tuning and gas to drive there and back to have them work on the car for me?

ABSOLUTELY!

I guarantee to you will not only walk away with the best tune possible, but a lot more knowledge than you ever expected regarding your car.

There is no "is it worth it" questions about English Racing. I would trust them with my car and NO ONE wrenches on my dsm besides me (and English ha).

Yeah, Lucas and his whole crew are a class act. They are extremely good with Dsm/evo's and they are upfront and honest. You never have an issue with the quality of their work. I will always have them do my work there.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone with a bad review of them. They seriously go out of their way to make any problems right even if it wasnt their fault.

Im another guy who does everything himself, but if anyone were to touch my car (which theyll probably rebuild my tranny this winter) it would be English Racing.
