i just got my first dsm...its a 95 eclipse gs...it has 55k on a rebuilt engine that runs strong...the clutch is also new...my problam is the previos owner riced it up pretty bad...the first thing i did was take the 3 foot tall metal wing off of the back...it has a unnamed ram air intake that was bought on ebay and a axel back exauhst that sound good untill 2500 + rpm then it sounds like a can of marbles...what can i do to make the ricey noice stop? and is the ram air intake safe?

your intake should be fine just get a k and n filter as far as the exhaust you can invest in an ebay cat back for pretty cheap and itll sound a little better if its installed right or you can get like hks magna flow just in how much you want to spend on it

you can always go back to stock with the exhaust especially if there is no big mods done to the engine

or get the stock exhaust on the gst or gsx's i think they look a little better then the gs and rs stock exhaust and im sure itll sound a little better too

Maybe a silencer insert could be sufficient?

cat back exhausts go for real cheap on ebay. So if you dont like the sound, change it out with one of those. Just remember, you have a 4 cyl n/t. It will never sound like a muscle car.

As far as intake, Im sure its fine for now. BUT what are your plans for the car?

thanks for the advise...i know it will never sound like my old 350 on cherry bombs but i know i can get a agressive growl out of it...so a cat back will remove the tin can sound at upper rpms? its going to be my daily driver so i dont want to get wild with the mods i was thinking about a OBX intake spacer, strut bars, drop it 2 inches...just small stuff...for now...

Im sure it just needs some tlc looks like your on the right path. Have any pictures?

im sanding the black paint off and priming it now...its a fun car...my first import...i just need to stop that awful tin can sound at the upper rpms...is there anyway to fix it for under $100?
