Alright guys, well I just finished my 14B install in my 95 GSX. All is well besides some minor oil leaks on the return line and the SS feed line at the filter housing. There was also a VERY minor coolant leak from the front banjo bolt on the turbo. I tightened it a tad and I think i went away. Now the turbo is spooling really late because I think there may be a leak before the turbo.
Now on to the problems.

1. The turbo does not smoke at all besides at WOT sometimes it blows out whiteish grey smoke. I'm trying to think of where it could be burning coolant. It never did this before the turbo install.

2. There was some white smoke the past 2 days at the manifold. I'm thinking its the shitload of PB Blaster that I sprayed all over the car but I'm not sure.

3. There's a smell coming from my engine that I can smell if I pop my hood and it becomes more noticeable when I'm driving and really get on it. It smells like burning plastic sort of, with a mix of burning rubber. The lower heat shield is not on the car because it's a pain to get on and I haven't put it back on because I haven't had time. Nothing is touching anything hot so I 'm confused...The only possible thing is maybe I pout on a new 4 ply exhaust mani. gasket as well as antiseize on most of the bolts and the turbo-mani. bolts.

Any help? Thanks.

I forgot to note that I also ran for codes the same day and got 'fuel trim malfunction', not sure if this could be related or something totally diff... Front O2 sensor is in, just waiting for my harmonic balancer to get in so I can pick them up.

i have a guess to what this might be but i wanna run it by ppl round here before im postive.

just got back my fresh rebuild , and im getting alot of white smoke but it seems to only come when im in park .

whats your synopsis ?

What mileage is on the new motor? You will probably see the smoke for about the first 1,000 miles or so.

really? glad i asked

it has 18 miles on it as of now and the place that did the rebuild forgot a plug that cause oil to leak everywhere at first so it had to be re pulled and the plug instaled so i thoght that was some of the smoke .

my guess was the turbo was shot. even though its a freshly rebuilt turbo , but it ran in my knocking motor after it was installed for 30 miles or so.

plus im only getting 10 lbs of boost now, and i use to get 14 before rebuild .

more thoughts?

im not talking a little smoke its like a cloud and its mainly onlly when im in park .

ummm someone who knows what there talking about please come along and tell me what to do

Mods dont move my post, i did the search read the posts and still would like opinions on my particular circumstances. Its a forum . the same 20 questions will be repeated for eternity and the whole purpose of this forum is to help people.why would you try to prevent that just to make things look neat and organized? it defys the purpose of this place. old post do help but the reason people come to forums is to interact with others about there situation specifically .

i

now as i was saying before.

heres the chain of events

old turbo seizes , causing huge oil problem and leaving me with a car that dosnt go over 20 mph .

im forced to drive on it for lack of other transportation for about 200 miles

i buy a almost mint condition turbo and have it installed

20 miles down the road i hear a knocking . drive it home another 10 miles and send it out to the shop

bought a rebuild from dsm graveyard

had it installed

have only drove 20 miles but im getting alot of white smoke in park .

mechanic tells me that the turbo has shaft play now.

so im guessing either the engine isnt broke in or the turbos on its way out.

w.e it is it has to be delt with asap , has to survive a 1200 mile drive to Fl in 15 days.

I would try breaking the motor in first. Mine smoked like crazy for a while, I just kept driving it in all different rpms and then letting it cool down over night and repeated till it was gone. Rings are sometimes hard to seat. It could take quite a few miles. Did you recheck your torque on your head bolts after a couple of heat cycles?

DSM graveyards saying there engines shouldnt smoke at all , because there all new rings and pistons

Also i did a leak down test there wasnt a leak at all. What could this be from i was think my turbo bc there is a bolt broke inside the hole where the oil line is bolted to, so its only hanging on by 1 bolt and i have a cracked exhaust manny, thats real bad just noticed. Also how do you check for shaft play. what could it be?

Yup, white smoke is water. [steam] And it's not the head gasket because our blocks are closed deck...

ask what equipment they will use to surface the head, if its a "belt surfacer" find a diffrent shop.

that machine will not keep the head square or indexted.

white smoke comes out of muffler. people say coolant but i dont think it smells sweet. i had just done seafoam and have changed oil twice. can to much oil be bad for the engine. so i have 5 quarts of oil when it should be 4 1/2 . could that be a problem. i know that it can be the turbo or the head gasket.
