Won't work, though you can put the 2.0 head on a 2.4 cloud car block, fitted with the SRT4's pistons and rods.

Well according to Darrell Cox on the third page,

Question from another member: "Since your using a Avenger head, can I asume that your using the "world block" also? Or does the new world head fit the neon srt4 blocks?"

Answer from Darrell Cox: "No sir, still using A855 SRT-4 block with the 420A Eclipse/Avenger cylinder head."

I didnt see anywhere that it needed modifying to fit correctly, just that they machined the head to their racing spec.

Then you can try to fit it all into a DSM engine bay. Good luck with that.

Some of the guys on neons.org have been talkong about having done it already. Not sure on the details but my girl was reasearching her turbo neon project and was telling me about it and showed me a few threads where people mentioned that engine combo in their mods when talking about engine builds

We can't use an srt block because 03+ blocks use a totally different type of crank sensor (NGC) which will not work with our computers.

A 2.4 short block from a pt cruiser, caravan, or cloud car from the year 1995 to 02 will work though.

the a855 is based on the 420a. just hopped up. if the block bolts in place, you're golden. i'm not sure if you can run the srt-4 tranny. the t850. you would need both cars taken apart side by side.

the neon 420a (1g) and the eclipse 420a are simply reversed. exhaust in the back. just like the srt-4. the bore and stroke are different in the 2.4l.

as long as you don't have clerance issues...

the car can be reharnessed. use the srt-4 computer and sensors if you want to

YES YOU CAN

Thw A855 block will work with a 420a head i have spoken with darrell cox about running this combo in my car it will work and give you a nice 20% bump in TQ

only for 20% more trq. hardly seems worth it, hell if i was looking for more trq, i would use a stroker kit. No sense is wasting time and money and effort into fitting multiple parts like that together, when you can just buy a kit. And still get some decent power and torque. I guess i can understand about wanting to be unique about it,(trust me i know that one) but its just too much work so for not that much gain.......

It's actually pretty simple if you can do the work yourself, or you know people.

Hardest part is modding the oil pan to make room for the exhaust and making a passenger MM. Other than that, it's just like a short block swap.

there is an advantage to running the 420a head on an srt-4. plenty of room for a large turbo setup, since it will be located in front of the motor, as opposed to behind it (between the engine and firewall). manifolds should be available, but there will be custom fabbing.

the advantage of running the srt-4 engine on a gs platform is obvious. If you can make it work.
who'd giving it a shot? don't make me do it...

Are you kidding? There's not very much room between the block and firewall. There's far more room between the block and the radiator as long as you replace the stock fans with pushers.

i know, that's what i meant. we're on the same page.

I do think there is more room between the motor and the firewall on an eclipse than a neon though.

I see, my mistake.

Yes, the engine is mounted further forward in the Neon engine bay than it is in the DSM bay. There is much more room for a turbocharger in that case.

NOt sure how well they'd swap into a DSM body, but there's 3 neons that i know of around here already running SRT-4 complete swaps... one is in the old school neon, from what i hear it screams!

There seems to be quite a few compatible SRT-4 parts for the standard Neons. There's a lot of information on it on Neons.org.

If you run Megasquit for engine mangement, you can get away with running the NGC block. At least that's the word on the street. I plan on trying it out with the Shadow I have that's going 2.4L.

I have a guy local to me that has a old school neon r/t with a stock srt shortblock and 420a head in his neon and his girls eclipse. He uses Megasquirt to tune.

The srt shortblocks seem to be pretty strong(~450whp) and the amount of timing ran on them is amazing. The stock timing map will run timing up to 40* if no knock is present.
I've logged 28* at 6k on my srt on pump gas with a 93tune
I've never ran a 4g63 anywhere near that, LOL
