ok i got about $1100 for a new turbo and boost controller system.. i have worn down normal 16 which is not boosting like she once did. so im made some money for a new one and need help to pick. Im really liking the Evo 3 Big 16g and the HKS GENERATION 6 EVC BOOST CONTROLLER. But i need some feed back if im making a smart move. please help :D

To ask and respond to your question "What is the best turbo for your car" would be a relative answer, as everyone will give different answers/opinions.
What are your hp goals ?

If your turbo is going now, just get another 16g or rebuild it. You do NOT have the pre requisits for a larger turbo. You would need larger injectors, bigger fuel pump and possibly an AFPR, boost gauge, a way to tune your fuel, a logger if you don't use dsmlink so you know what's goin on in the car. To put it simple, set a goal for yourself and build around it. If you want big numbers, figure out the turbo and then piece together the parts you'll need to run it. Same goes if you want a wicked 16g street car.

On the boost controller, just get a simple manual BC. They all do the same thing. Mine was $20 and works great.

+1 on above post...
I'd get dsmlink with all the fuel mods THEN slap a Holset HX40 on that bad boy. In fact, that's what I'm doing...except with Megasquirt instead of dsmlink. Ball and spring MBC's do the job :thumb:

a evo3 16g would be great better than that t-25 2gen has and depends on mods and Maintenance and the best would be Mitsu 16g or fp and no ebay made in china junk turbos.

AND NO dont go out and get a $20 boost controller they are junk!!!! Get a good one like hallman, turboxs, turbosmart etc...... ebay junk will break and will not last long and make it not safe on the motor by the fact that its broke and cant controll boost. Do it right the first time thats the problem with alot of dsmers try to cheap out on stuff and then blame the car well its the persons fault not the car for cheaping out on parts.

I bought my MBC from ebay for $6, in fact someone built it themselves! It has functioned flawlessly for about a year and a half; no complaints here...

Mine was somewhere around $20 I think... it's the Joe-P inline which isn't ebay :)

Just go evo3 16g, 650cc injectors, walbro 255, afpr, apexi safc or safc2 or dsmlink and you'll be set.

OP: were you running a 16g with no supporting mods? I'm not psychic... but I think you were LOL

Follow the upgrade path. And honestly, "I" would go with an e3 16g, 18g or 20g turbo. But I like G's I guess. I'm currently running a 14b right now. PM me if you want to sell your old turbo.

OOHHH thanks alot guys!! yeah im getting the Evo 3 Big 16g then and where would i get all those other mods.. i want a realyl good boost controller because i dont want my turbo to be running on such a high psi so i can whoop other car adn be wasting a shit load of gas. i want like a controller that lets me switch between psi like on for getting to school and then one for killing... i was going for lik 300hp-400??

and also the owner before me had already put in a 16g on it soo im guessing he has all the supporting mods... he really didnt know what was in his car. i had to look it all up. but like i said i got 1100 for my project am i able to get mods turbo and boost controller with that?

Here's an easy way to switch between psi...
-School: Don't floor it
-Racing: Floor it
When I'm driving around town I try to not even build boost. You need a boost gauge or a good ear though.

For $1100 you should be able to get the turbo, injectors, and fuel pump. However, you're going to need to control the injectors somehow. If your goals are 300-400hp you should just stick with an AFC like the Apexi NEO which will run you about $400.

Manual Boost controller is really the only way to go.

+1 completely agree :thumb:

Well, even though this kind of question has been asked 1 billion times...

E316G, evo 560s, wally 190 and an SAFC/logger is the one way you can get everything you need well within your price. You could even get one of those halman boost contollers with in cabin boost.

but wouldnt it be saving me more gas if the turbo harldy even running?? yeah i know that the was you push it is your gas mileage but just thinking a low boost turbo would be wasting less gas then a high boost. i have a greddy boost gauge so i look at that. and about the dsm link for tuing is there a way where i can do that myself or i have to go to a shop to get it tuned. yeah 300-400 hp is my goal for the next 2 years

It is very obvious that you are a newbie. All of you questions could have been answered by doing a simple search. Please use it DSMtuners has many similar useless threads.

First, the last thing you should be worrying about is getting a new turbo. Have you even checked for shaft play? boost leaks? is you car blowing smoke? MHI turbos are built like tanks they last forever as long as it doesn't starve of oil.

Second, you need to do is find out what mods you have done to the car. Don't ASSUME you have the supporting mods. According to your profile all you have is a 16g and boost gauge. By simply adding a turbo-back exhaust and FMIC setup you car will come alive and you can boost 15PSI all day on stock fuel system.

gonna eat lunch i will finish later...

Mitsubishi EVO III Big 16G Turbo,FIC 550CC BALL-STYLE INJECTORS,Walbro 190lph Fuel PumpHALLMAN PRO RX BOOST CONTROLLER ok so this is what i got so far that im sure on getting. i made up my mind to go with manual boost controller then elec. what esle do i need?

and yes i have check all those thing i haev no boost leaks, no smoke coming out, everything is good just am giving up on the my old turbo

There is open source logging software available for free all you need is a laptop and a OBDII to serial/usb cable to connect to your car.
