Ok i been doing some reserch but its just too broad and too many things it coud be i need to narrow it down if some one has had this problem please help this is my ride to work and now im stuck.. ok im the highway doin around 80 mph when my rpm all of the sudden start to jump from around 4k to 2k then stayed around 2k and it was stuggling to saty at 60 mph. every time it dropped the rpm it was constnt missfire when it jumped back up it was fine. now it wont even jump or anything it's constantly missfireing in random cylinders.... here are a few things i already tryied.: reset computer, new plugs, changed out injectors.. any one have any ideas????

the ecu could be bad... ive seen that problem before.. also in my 1g the fuel pump relay would shut on and off because of the caps leaking in the ecu all over the board. that caused the car to stall like your explaining. check out the inside of the ecu

cool i'll check this out man that the next thing i was thinking of swapping out. appreciate the halp. any one elses have any good ideas???

im having same issues..check cas, power transistor, coils, wires, plugs, injectors, and do a boost leak test for shits and giggles as well..if your losing 2 cylinders then its gotta be power transistor or coils

Ok so this sounds exactly like what happened to my car. I was doing the same thing 80mph on the freeway when the rpms started jumping and then a little later down the road it shut off. Turned out that I blew the head gasket and coolant was getting into the num 4 cylinder and thats why it would shut off. Once the car shuts off pull the plugs and see if they are wet with coolant. Also check for white smoke when the car is running. If so then I would bet on the head gasket. Just make sure that if it is you get the head checked at a machine shop for straightness and warping. Happens very easily with the dohc. Let me know what you find out. Feel free to pm me as well

well if you have a 6-bolt in a 2g without a kiggly trigger plate, or dsm link you are gonna get a missfire at constant speed, but if the rpm's jump around on the dash your power transistor has failed. make sure to check the connection to it, the clips like to become weak and disconnect...

cheers :)

thanks for all the advice guy well ecu wasn't it it's looking more towards P/T or coil pack.. will let u guy know soon

Or a DSMChip. ;)
But, that's why I was asking about any MIL's. If its Random Misfire he should be getting a P0300 MIL code.

X2 on the transistor!! I had that problem for awhile and I was only getting two cylinders.

I would venture to say it has to do with spark than anything. Deff check for the smoke since its easiest. But check the coil pack, wires, plugs, etc. Good luck with it and keep us posted.

I would say test or replace the power transistor, had the same thing happen on my car. Ran ok, until it lost 2 cylinders, 20 minutes of testing things on the bench and I had it narrowed down and fixed.

ok guys bad news... as far as the mil i remember it saying random missfire forgot the code ill get it next time i post. ok so i went to the junk yard got a set of coils that looked almost new of a 4g63 n/t but tryed them on my friends car and it ran perfect i also got the transistor and a second transistor from a 4g63 t i put the new coil in .. still missing on cylinder 2 and 3 tried on both transistors and still missing on 2 and 3 . then i went to disconect the new coil pack and the dam wire broke right at the plug. im gonna go get a new plug and see what the deal is... im stomped.....

those are band new plugs.. as you can see only 1 and 4 are fireing...

i know it has nothing to do with with my problem but i still went ahead and did a dry compression test: cylinder 1: 90
cylinder 2: 70
cylinder 3: 100
cylinder 4: 63

= not good... :( but as long as it runs i'll be ok this whole week end is going to be spent under the hood i need my car to get to work!!! LOL

Did you do it cold or hot? Those are really odd numbers.

it was a done cold and it was a dry test.. reguardless i dont think thats the issue..

ok here are the cel codes i got:
p0115 Engine Coolant Temperature circuit.
p0325 Knock Sensor 1 circuit.
p1500 Alternator FR Terminal circuit.
p0443 EVAP System Purge Control Valve circuit.
p1105 Fuel Pressure Solenoid.
p0403 EGR Solenoid.

that is on the general guide. dont know if this helps any one but none of these codes help me before i was throwing up a random cylinder misfire but im not any more....
ok im stumpt.. i tried everything i put on new working coil pacl from a 98 nt set up is a little different but still worked just fine when i plugged it in to my friends car no problems. then i thought maybe the bracket for the transistor acts like a ground so i went ahead and srewd it back in car started and did not miss fire any more now i go for a test drive every thing seemed fine then the rpm gauge was reading way OVER 9000 basically going all the way aroung the jumping everywhere... just going crazy and the car just started running like Sh*t i have no idea what i could be crank sensor?????

Mine did that, the i believe is called power control module, PCM its a sensor in the manifold behind the fuel rail next to where the P/T plugs in, I went through 2 of them, it would drive fine and then all of a sudden spin the RPM gauge fully around and back, almost looking like a boost gauge, I ended up taking the one off my 2.4 na and every now and then the clip comes un done and I gotta push it back down, yours might be randomly unplugging itself or may have a wire frayed or cut, I'd check there too! Let me know if this helps, I don't remember how old thisp ost is, but I'm having problems getting random missfire codes as well, I don't know how old the wires are but the plugs are just over 1000 miles old

still missing on cylinder 2 and 3 tried on both transistors and still missing on 2 and 3 . then i went to disconect the new coil pack and the dam wire broke right at the plug. im gonna go get a new plug and see what the deal is.

The wire was likely already broken and since it's the one from the power transistor to the coil for cylinders 2 and 3 that would explain them not firing.

Half of your codes looks like from removing the emissions stuff on a 2G.
You'll have to look into the Engine Coolant sensor, knock, and alternator ones. They indicate you have some other wiring problems in the car.
